Getting on the track is relatively easy, from Houx take the road at Tetre Rouge and follow the N138 south to get to Indy and Arnage - watch out for the police though, they don't seem to appreciate any antics!
You've missed out the square in Le Mans town centre, after the drivers paraide as a mad Friday location.
The road alongside Maison Blanche used to be favoured, but the police put a stop to that a few years back. Houx Annex roundabout seems to be the current favourite.
Houx/Houx Annex are inside the circuit, parallel to the Village to Tetre Rouge area. Walk out the back of the Village, past the Club 24 building and 1st aid guys, then through the car park and over the Bugatti foot brige to get to the Houx end. Cross the Dunlope bridge and keep going, cross the Bugatti circuit a few times and you come out on the edge of Houx Annex.
(...or I could just have pointed you at the map of course... www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/live/pages/acces/plan_vert_24h2005_3.pdf)

When can you get on the curcuit ?? any time Friday ??
There tends to be a PH meet on the Friday morning which is always good fun, just watch out for the Brits holding a cut-out officer in the road, if you don't leave a pair of black stripes, you're liable to get super-soaked

about 70% of the track is made up of public roads, which are open until the early hours of saturday morning. At night, you can have a real good blast from tetre rouge all the way down the mulsanne straight (all be it detouring for a couple of roundabouts!) and then down through the woods and round the indy and arnage corners. You can get up to just short of the porche curves before the circuit goes into the compound and the road diverts back up parallel. We left around 3am last year and it was all still open.
O.
The roundabout at Houx is the best place to see people treating (mostly) nice cars like sh*t and trying to look like chavs. I wouldn't bother going out of your way to see it.
We all know which cars are powerful and which aren't without trying to make it like a Friday night in Southend.

As most people here have said, there are loads of places to go and have fun!
Each time I have been, I have been to the roundabout at Houx and had a great time. I would definitely recommend it. I often think I should go and try out somewhere else on Friday night, perhaps the drivers parade, but for me it would not be the same without visiting that roundabout.
I put together some of my footage from this years, check it out and you will see exactly what goes on and decide if its for you!

Cheers, Chris.
Ps, I do think it can be dangerous, and am still surprised nobody has been seriously injured(that I know of). There are trees on the roundabout and I think it is a good idea to stand by one of them.

Where actually is Houx ??
Best time is early Friday morning. There's no plod around then. It's crawling with them by about 10:00 am
I was driving round about 7:00 am on the Friday and had the place to myself. Sadly I was in a Mondeo 1.8 so couldn't really take advantage of the situation

I was amazed at the double decker coach on the roundabout, class

I too witnessed the Holden. Just out of curiosity, I assume you were aware of the gendarmes on the corner? (seeing as they had been there the whole 3 - 4 hours I was around the area). I just thought it was rather odd behaviour to do it right in their faces!
At the back of Maison Blanc there is an area where loads gather and stop cars to do burnouts. Its fun to watch, for about 5 minutes....
Houx Annex roundabout is easy enough to find. Basically go to Houx and then walk towards HA but turn right out of Houx so you are walking adjacent to HA campsite and you'll soon see a crowd gathered around and in the middle of the roundabout. Its good entertainment, albeit pretty dicey at times (white transit minibus anyone?!). Bomber denton must have a short memory re the police cos he was with me there last year when the police stopped the action for about an hour until they eventually let everyone get on with it.

(no offence if you're into that!)
I remember that, awesome, didn't you (or A57HSV?) get a ticket for "acceleracion excessive"? Superb.
