Fellow porkas, I\'m selling up and moving on to TVR! Its time to go british, unadulterated raw and plastic+glue!
Hopefully a Tuscan S (will get the tvrcraft engine fix).

Has anyone made this switch before?

Or has anyone come from the darkside? Any thoughts? Much appreciated.

We have gone from a Boxster to a 2005 Tamora. We are very happy with the decision and the car has proved to be everything we had hoped. The reliability has been faultless, although a few more visits to the garage for warranty than with the Porsche at least it didn't require to be recovered on a transporter unlike the Porsche in the same time frame.

Also at 3 months old I had an offer for our car from a dealer and we were very pleased with the depreciation. It was far better than the Boxster (Previously our best depreciating car in a short space of time).

Based on our experience I would say you wouldn't be dissapointed.

I've jumped the other way recently.

But in the older car market, from TVR S2 to Porsche 944S2 same year 1989. Porsche is streets ahead on the build quality.

The thing I miss most, is the people who own TVR's. they are not a bunch of, Oh i've got a porsche !!! they tend to be more friendly and that shows in the forums (which are split!) I prefer that.

Overall, you will find more friends with the TVR, and more meets all over the country.

The thing I won't miss is spending half me life underneath the TVR.
Hopefully, as you have a new one you won't need to.

By the way it ain't a brit anymore, its Russian !!!!!!!!!

Good luck.

I posted yesterday saying the opposite - see the post titled 'TVR to 1st 911...couldn't be happier!'

I do 100% understand what you mean about TVR owners being more friendly, etc, but I think that is purely as there are less of them, and because the car is classed as 'specialist' (not trying to say better...or worse), I think people that own them feel they're kinda in a special club together.

I flashed another 911 today, because I was in a habit of doing so from my Lotus and TVR days, the other Porsche just ignored me, then i realised that my new car isn't so special or unique.

But then again that doesn't mean Porsche drivers are less friendly, just the culture is different. I made some good friends showing off my TVR at 'meets' and just because I have got a Porsche doesn't mean I have changed...or think of myself as better.

I think the difference is that I have worked my way up the ladder (in terms of cost of car), so I still respect the other cars and their culture.

I do know Porsche drivers who have only ever driven 911's since a young age, and the slag everything else off...but that's money viewing their judgement.

As I said in my other post, I wouldn't change back to a TVR...but I did love the car and understand why people that own them have a certain passion towards them.

I had a new 2004 Tamora but I bought it just before the Russian took over, so I only had 1 years warranty. All I would say is that if you do buy a TVR, make sure it is new, or only a year old, so you get 2 years warranty, then sell it one month before the warranty expires.

The reason I sold my Tamora was because I was starting to get scared of things going wrong and wanted a solid car. The 911 is the ultimate (imho)...I'm jut glad I have had the chance to have both the TVR and 911...and even the Lotus!

Either way...they are both unbelievable cars that only about 2% of the population actually get to own...so we should all feel grateful I suppose

Just a small point ... the "dark side" is German! ... even I, coming from the TVR and then the Ferrari camp knew that

What's wrong with the dark side?

I'd rather be blowing stuff up on the deathstar than playing xylophone with the ewoks. The empire has more fun and the best gadgets

Went from a 99 Chimaera to a 2.7 Boxster back in June,The one big difference I have noticed is the general attitude and response you get is vastly different. People seem to love that certain Mystery about TVR, always wanting to compliment it, school kids and even street corner scummys would shout something positive, It always seemed to gain a little respect.
However with the Boxster I have had all the comments from "poor mans Porsche", or "not a real Porsche", to the experience of having it slagged off for not being an S.
Although It doesnt bother me, as all the negative comments seem to come from people who have never owned a Porsche, and to be honest could never afford one.

And as far as comments shouted from street corners, I now seem to get rude jeers about my size and lack of hair!
