Police attitude
Discussion
I reported my driveway blocked at 1am this morning. I was very polite and spoke to a nice lady who said someone would attend when they had time. I phoned again a few hours later to be told that an officer had attended and no obstruction or offense was being committed. I managed to calmly explain that it would be difficult to get a pushbike past the offending vehicle never mind a car. Lo and behold a few mins later I get a phone call from a right sarcastic git informing me I could now put my car away.
The tone and attitude suggested that the officer felt I was being ridiculous expecting to have cars blocking my drive removed, especially at 4am. I met the driver of the offending vehicle, (the pillock at least had the grace to apologise) and as he had been inconvenienced by a phone call to shift his car at 4 am then there is a fair chance he might think twice about parking in a stupid place next time. So why, I ask the PH think tank, do the police think breaking the law and blocking someones drive is OK. It was clear from the phone conversation that if the car had had no tax or any damage they would have been round like a shot. All it took was a phone call to get the owner to move, they could have done that at 1am. This country has gone to the dogs.

when he went off on one!
Old lady was being bullied by new neighbour but like all bully victims - suffered in silence und did not let family know :;rolleyes:
Anyway - one of the constants was her driveway being blocked - she still drives und ist still a lady I am happy to be in passenger seat with
But one day - we visited - und got blocked in by the neighbour.
Mad Doc went next door to ask if she could just move her car she has EMPTY DRIVE UND GARAGE! He was polite - but she started screaming and swearing at him - proclaiming her car was taxed etc and she coyuld park on roadway if she wanted to. Mad Doc very calmly pointed out that she was entitled to park on road as no yellow lines - but not in manner as to cause obstuction und inconveneince to another person or imprison in house. At this point - she threatened to call
s und have us arrested (I had, by this time, chipped in with recommendation for something to help her hormones at the time of month by this stage
Well - when she threatened with the police - Mad Doc whipped out his Handy und calmly said - "Shall I dial then?"
Und the woman .....
a woman POLICE OFFICER
She ist no longer -- we put in one hell of a complaint when we found out what she'd been doing to a woman who had lived in her home, minding own business, getting on with her neighbours for past 40 odd years und had been brought to near breakdown by car imprisoning her, und the woman's dog dirt und other rubbish filling the old lady's bin, loud music late at night und whenever the old lady pottered in garden. We never knew why she behaved like this - though her bosses claimed "stress"
But back to your tale of woe - they have funny idea of common sense..
You live in GMP land - nicht? Perhaps you should have told them a fat car was blocking your path..
The thought police would have been around in a trice!

Thats an example of what goes on but please dont tar everyone with the same brush.
In my experience, that type of obstruction call goes out to the local Division who put it on a very low priority as its seen as a 'Traffic job'. Its then passed to the Traffic channel and at that time of night, the only area traffic car could be busy with more important things like a Fatal RTA or an arrest, and as a result its passed back to the Division.
The Division could only have a handful of Officers who are all gainfully employed and as a result, the call is still on a low priority and will remain unanswered for a considerable time.
When the Early Traffic shift come on duty, they may have several cars available and at this time your call might get dealt with.
This is a sign of the times and shortage of Police manpower.....but never mind, there are loads of Highways Agency staff available but unless you are on a major road you will have to whistle.
The other day i saw the incident list of a large Police Division and they had 28 outstanding 'I' grade calls......i do know for a fact that 10 years ago there would only have been 1 or 2 at the most...........
Also, at this time, if you arrested a Drink Driver, you could deal with it within an hour and a half. Nowadays it takes a minimum of 3 hours to do the same thing.
In addition to this, the other week it took 2 hours from time of arrest to get the prisoner booked onto the Custody Sheet as they were sooooo busy. This has a knock on effect because of the fact it takes too long to deal with a prisoner, the Custody Areas get conjested etc etc and you sometimes have to travel further to an available Police Station.......
Something has gone wrong somewhere

it's not the bib 'on the shop floor' that the public are frustrated with, most people realise it's the policies that are set by 'high up people with little or no knowledge of the real world. it's the same in every profession. however the police did act quickly (acording to the papers) on the interviewee on the local radio who made the comments about the gay couple.
