I've just bought a copy of 64Bit XP for my gaming system, mainly as it cost only £96 (same as 32bit XP). Thought i'd make the jump now to take advantage of my AMD chip when the apps/games start coming out. All the drivers are covered on the system, i was just wondering if anyone was running it and has any feedback/experiences ?

In case anyone else is interested AMD have released a list of 64 Bit Drivers. I doubt this is 100% so more may be available :

So far it looks the drivers are starting to come out now at a fair rate.

Jumped in with a SLI system on the intel platform.

Its worth getting into x64 for sure. It is certainly faster on application performance. Games well still 32bit. Windows Vista will be x64

Shame on Autodesk and some other big graphics players all still crunching the 32bit path.

I have a 5 year old SGI with twin 64 bit CPU's on UNIX platform. Very stable. (In classifieds btw)

I did the same a month or two back. My one piece of advise is: Don't install the NVidia hardware firewall drivers. They cause problems with programs not running, downloads being corrupted and more. Without them it's all fine.

I tried Windows XP Pro 64 when building up my new PC, and it did seem to work well - startup in particularly was noticeably quicker. Most applications appear to work well, but the main problems I found were that some very important applications either didn't work or weren't available.

In particular, there are very few antivirus and software firewall applications that work with XP Pro 64, and I couldn't find an imaging backup program which worked (like Norton Ghost). There are also reports of some games not working properly, or their copy protection causing issues (like StarForce), and as my PC is mainly used for gaming, that's a problem. Add to that the fact that there are very few x64 native games (IIRC there is only the patched version of Far Cry) and that there is no speed benefit to running standard 32-bit games under WOW64 on XP Pro 64, I reverted to standard XP Pro, and put my copy of XP Pro 64 aside for later use :-)

Well my version has been installed an i have to say it was no more hassle than the 32bit version. All drivers installed like a dream, and i installed Avast anitvirus and thats work well. Ran the MS update and downloaded all the security updates etc etc. Everythings working well !

Installed GT Legends fine. Starforce is not an issue anymore it appears as it went on without any problems whatsoever. Installed Winamp and that works fine.... Later this week i will install BF2 and CnC Generals but i think they will be fine.

Startup to XP64Bit from power on takes only about 10 seconds or so which is superb !

From my first experiences of it i would say crack on and get using it - it looks great ! Well worth the gamble ! As soon as the 64 Bit games come out it will come into its own and the system will get a nice boost !
