I've just found out that Sygate have been bought out by Symantec. Their excellent free firewall (which i have used for years) is no longer supported and the free download has been taken offline. Instead you get a webpage with a table of prices for the Symantec prices !!

The march of capitalism. Don't like your competitor - buy them out.

Thus the death of choice and variety.

Oh balls, at least when Microsoft buy someone they give their product away free for a while (regedit, MS anti-spyware, etc.)

That's a shame.

So, who are the major free firewall providers at the moment then?

When I needed a software firewall I used the free Kerio firewall, was better for me than the other free firewalls I tried.
Of course the firewall products just got bought off Kerio by a company called Sunbelt though... Good news is they're still offering the free version
