I am nearing exchange of contracts on a house purchase, and the local search has pointed out that No.X has it's own tree which is covered by a TPO, which wasn't a total surprise given it's size...
I don't have any major problem with trees and there is enough space for parking etc. but i do feel a bit uncomfortable about any sort of restriction on what i can do to my own home -
especially in the hands of the beloved council.
It's about 3 times the height of the house and is about 50ft away,
Would this put off anyone buying a house, and has anyone come across a similar issue? Some thoughts on this from you tree-loving PH people...

If it's a willow it won't have any leaves on it now (assuming they are still on it!). Thin and pointy sounds like a fir tree of some sort.
Depends on the tree as to what effect it has on a building's structure, and also the soil type will also. if it is on clay a large tree tends to suck water out of the clay in summer causing cracking and possibly foundation subsidence.
But, if is 50ft away it shouldn't have THAT much affect. I would be more worried about it falling over on my house in a storm!

yep, it's still had leaves on it a few weeks ago.

nope, im quire sure it doesn't have clay soil and there's a pathway between the tree and house which doesn't seem to be damaged.

it looks pretty stable and has been there for 40-50 years, but yeah it's a big mother of a tree (actually it's more like 5x height of house!) - maybe i'm worrying about nothing.
