Brother in law and sister were shopping at the weekend (brother in law glad to have some time off as he's been driving green godesses
) he comes out of a shop and there are 2 firemen carrying buckets with "help our wages" or something on them, go up to brother in law "Excuse me mate, mind giving us a donation" says the firemen.
To which my brother in law replies politely "Err no I don't think so, I'm doing your job for you"
Best bit the fireman said was "You aint doin OUR job, your doing it for the government!" and walked off.

I got cut up by a builders transit coming back from a meeting this afternoon and the bloody thing had one of the yellow stickers with a big red Y in the middle on the back. No doubt what so ever that the three "builders" in the front had been able to squeeze in a few extra jobs this week.
quick stats
firemen get 21K basic currently. they have in place an overtime ban, they have had for 15 years which means they only do a 4 day week instead of at least 5 like the rest of us. If you therefore reckon that they are down 25% on their earnings due to the overtime ban and factor in the 11-16% they have been offered at various points they'd be on about the 30K they are after. except the bloody union insists on the overtime ban....
Mind you the government are no better. Hard to know who to support.

I thought it was rather sick that our local news on TV showed the striking firemen with collection boxes to boost their wages ??? I couldn't believe that they showed the fireman talking to an old lady, probably a pensioner, and accepting money from her. I mean, are any firemen earning less than an old pensioner??
alt said:Didn't they know the wages when they applied? Or was it a complete shock when they were accepted!
Absolutely!
To be fair though, neither side really smells of roses at the minute. Especially not that special needs case Prescott - why is he still alive?!!
I would suggest that all the services receive the same pay rise: nurses, teachers, police and firemen, but the teachers were on strike too...
