kleonard,
do you have the mk II black GT3 that was at Mondello a few weeks back?
Waiting to test drive the Cayman at Porsche Centre East London..........pushing toward a GT3 in the New Year.

Great car the cayman, looks good and drives really well..just needs some more power as the chassis/brakes etc feel too capable..drove a 997 straight after the cayman and it actually felt a little clumsy but much quicker...i would like to buy the cayman but just think i will get bored with it lacking power.
I drove this car the other day - 1st impressions very good. Very solid feel, but beautiful supple suspension - until the saleman switched to sport mode..! Seriously tho', this car is a great place to be in, but really doesn't feel like 290+bhp - it's a fair bit lighter than my 996 but certainly feel much less urgent than my 320bhp. At one point during my drive, I exited a roundabout onto a dual lane and a guy in a big Volvo (probably a turbo)saw me in his mirror and to my disbelief I couldn't pass him....I think the saleman was a bit put out. So bottom line is; great car - could do with, and easily handle about another 50bhp - but then I guess that puts it squarly in 997 territory...

They aren't much lighter than 911s if you look at the specs. Not much smaller either!
I see Kayc is full of his usual constructive criticism...!
To be fair, the car was obviously very new and will probably loosen up after a few '000 miles. But still, a Volvo for Christs sake - the guy must've been laughing all the way home.....!
As an aside, apart from the Gt3 etc Porsche don't make a fast 2 seater, so maybe the Cayman could stand along side the 911 in the model range - I know I'd certainly be more interested in a 3.8 350bhp variant..... I have a 911 because I sometimes need to run the kids about...

Once rolling at speed you need a lot more power to pull away from other cars, if it was one of the faster Volvo's I'm not surprised, those T5's are fast on the motorway.
The Cayman feels about the same as my 996(3.4) with a bit more flexibility lower down the revs to me, Porsche's own figures say 11.7 to 100 for the Cayman and a good time for the 3.4 996 according to Track challenge is 11 seconds, So .7 of a second
I don't think many people think he Cayman's going to be as fast as the 997 in a straight line, it got less power and Porsche have obviously held it back
