Help, Mine's an S1 111s and the top end sounds like it's falling to pieces.

Recently had a "c" service and cam belt change and covered 500 miles or so since, but started her up today and sounds like a verniers come loose or a tappet's isn't pumped up.

It's really loud but doesn't appear to have effected the running of the engine, other than you can't hear yourself think! Anyone got any ideas what it may be?

Cheers Dave

Don't drive it!

It could be a number of things -

open the oil cap is there oil getting to the top of the engine?

Probably easiest to get a mechanic to take a look at it as its very hard to diagnose over tinternet forum !

yes, don't drive it. But get those who did the C service to repair it free of charge since they obviously messed something up. Good luck man

Yeah I'd not drive it, get it looked at... if you're lucky it's just a sticky lifter.... mine does it from time to time when it's not been started for a week or two.... sounds like death and persists for 5 minutes or so, but goes away pretty quick... hopefully it's nothing more sinister

Mine was rather noisey the other day so I treated it to some stuff to relieve sticky valves, worked a treat! Has made it quieter on tick over and very quiet once up in the revs.

Many thanks for you suggestions. Have now got her back and it turned out to be a sheared bolt that holds the cam pulley onto the end of the camshaft, new one on me I have to admit.

Thankfully all sorted under warranty, but disconcerting none the less. Apparently it hasn't damaged the engine of valve gear, as the compression test was fine.

Fingers crossed all will be ok from now on, as the warranty is about to expire!!
