A beginers guide to ZR-1 vacum secondaries.
Discussion
If you are like me and havent had much experience of the vacum secondaries or you are new to the ZR-1 scene then ive taken the time to paint certain parts of the system on my 91(i think some years vary)
Because of the hessitation i have decided to renew and go through the parts with a fine tooth comb,i have started with a new reservoir, which ive painted orange,a new vacum solenoid(white),the actuators are on the car and are painted yellow.
There are 3 other parts that i have paint on ,they are Red,silver and white stripped, ile let some of you guys name them parts.
Ive also gone round all the connections and glued and cable tied them to make sure they dont leak and ive painted the vacum lines yellow so when they are back on the car in the next couple of days you will be able to see the routes and connections.
Hope this helps in understanding the system.
On the back of the solenoid i have not put the filter firmly on so you can see its positioning.
Any advice or pointers welcome.

PM sent to you Cliff, hopefully info I have can shed some light for you. Without being able to see in person what each item is, and where it was situated, its hard to tell from a drawing what's what, although I do have a schematic.
When you see the it, you might be able to understand better.

Stevie thanks for the pages relating to the secondaries,i have got some imf here in the workshop manuals but the ones you sent were much better at explaining and the diagrams are A1 aswell, ime going to try and get a copy.
All back together, fired her up and first thing i noticed once she had warmed up was the idle was just around 950rpm compared with the higher idle of around 14-1500 rpm, also when revved the tick over came straight down instead of "hovering".
On the road she pulled well on full power, coming of one roundabout with an empty DC she she pulled all the way up to 7 grand with no hessitation at all and even after a good "wring" out the idle settled instantly.
The parts i changed were 2x actuators(already had)
1 reservoir,1 solenoid,both PCV valves and service alternator belt(Kurt @whiteracing)
1x set of plenum gaskets (Mike @Ebert engineering sevices)his gaskets are thicker and make for a better seal.
All vacum pipe connections were glued and cable tied but beware as the vacum pipes can be brittle, these are stocked @whiteracing.
Hope this helps with those annoying vacum leaks.

Cliff, stop painting and let me have that car! One ZR-1 is enough...!
OI OI Malc, nice to hear your still around, hope things are ok and i miss seeing that happy smiley face, sounds like you are missing the old vette?.
Ive just got back from Bournemouth and the Red ZR-1 that ive just done all the work on the secondaries drove brilliantly,it was responsive great idle and i think ive also improved the mpg by around 3-5 miles ,i was getting around 21-22 mpg out of the old 4 cam.
Dare i say it the trip home was better than sex, when everything else had run out of RPM i was flying.
I know Nigel ,i need to get out more

If they ever stop salting the roads you should plan a trip to Gloucestershire

Z06 is going off to be sorted sometime in the next week. Dunno how long it's gonna take but I've promised the car to Eric the Brave for a display at end of Feb and I hope to be able to fulfill that engagement!

The Z06 is off to be fixed on the 27th of Dec....so Jan/Feb could be rather expensive months for me

Cant wait,if ever i want to see a vette reach its full potential its yours, as like me you have spent a lot of money and deserve results.
