I find it really irritating that more than 18 months after ive lived at my present address i am still getting letters and phone calls for the previous occupants,i dont mind redirecting the mail although it gets a bit tedious sometimes, its just that if the last owner just took time to sit down for a couple of hours and write to everyone he knew or even just rung them it would save a lot of hassle for all.

This morning i get woken up by the phone(no problem),it was for the previous owner(again no problem)
but after replying with "Sorry they dont live here anymore" the person just hangs up with out even replying that really annoys me....Rude B*st*rds!!

Living in a shared house we always get mail for previous people. We used to forward it but after loosing the will to live unless it looks important it goes in the bin.

^Cant they just tell them that you already have double glazed windows?

that's a genius idea, don't know why we hadn't thought of that!

We have told them repeatedly (about once a month for the past 9 years) that the previous occupants no longer live here and we have double glazing, but they keep phoning back.

Register the number with telephone preference services then screw them if they keep ringing!!!

All they have to do is inform the Post Office, pay a fee, and their letters will be re-directed, personally, I would just chuck them in the bin....... as for phone calls, (assuming your phone number is witheld), dial 1471 get the callers number,(assuming theirs is not witheld), and call them back about 3 in the morning................. for a few days.

Just write deceased on the envelope and push it back in a post box. If the gits can't be arsed to redirect their mail then why should you bother. Same with the phone calls. Just tell them that you can't get Mr Whoever as they died last week and you've just had their funeral today. Amazing reaction you get from some people. I have registered myself with both TPS and MPS registers and the amount of cold calls and junk mail I get is about 1% of the previous level.

There are a number of reasons why it happens, and having moved just over 12 months ago, I have recent experience of this!

You right to all those businesses you can remember and tell them about your new address, you also write to all those on your Xmas card list. Some on your Xmas card list don;t change their list!

However there are always a few businesses that you only deal with infrequently, like those who might hold long term life insurance policeies, and they can get forgotten, also of course there is junk mail senders.

So the new owner of our old house still drops in mail to us. We look at it, check its not one we have missed notifying a change of address too, and then if not we then write gone away and put it back in the post box. That should then take us off another mailing list!

Probably too late now, but why didn't you just get a new 'phone number when you moved in? Saves endless grief.

I got the tax and insurance renewal reminder for the previous occupant of my home. He's been gone four months. I guess he's not going to be happy when the DVLA catch up with him.

With the house that I used to live in I used to get all sorts of mail/nasty letters from people that the previous tennant owed money to, (even had debt collectors on my doorstep) after a bit of asking around I found out where she lived, from that point on I just gave them her new address and let them sort it
(she did a runner owing thousands!)

Think thats bad.

We got a christmas card this year AND last year to the people who lived at our address prior to the people we bought off.

We opened it again, to see if there were any names or reply addresses etc. Sad thing is the card is from an Auntie and Uncle, with kids, telling them again how they are all doing, how so and so is doing in hospital after an accident etc.

This is TWO years in a row now, and they haven't lived there now for a good 4 or 5 years!

Pretty amazing that no one has twigged yet that after 5 years of sending cards and letters they have had no reply. Pretty sad too really.

We bought our house over 3 years ago, and this week received a card addressed to the owners before the previous owners. We opened it in order to find a return address (have given up writing return to sender or addressee gone away) and it was from their mum and dad!

You really would have thought they'd know where their children live.

Not to mention that you can think yourself lucky if you don't live in a place rented out by a previous owner and get contacts chasing the tenant who did a "moonlight flit."
