RUF Insurance Arghhhh

So I searched the past posts for gt2 and ruf insurance questions and everyone says norwich union. Once I got past all the usual "there's no such car", "do you mean GTi?", " are you sure its a porsche?", "is it a boxter?", "petrol or diesel" NONSENSE; we finally get to the crunch £2900, over double my best quote so far (for standard gt2). ARGHHHHHHH. needless to say i didnt bother asking about a ruf. Is there another NU department that does unusual cars that you guys speak to?
Ive got my heart set on a ruf gt2, but who the hell is going to insure it? If it makes any difference - its not a ruf vin number so is a modified porsche any easier to insure? Any recomendations? Good brokers?

I don't normally make recommendations (has a habit of coming back to bite you in the a**e)
However, I came close to buying an X50 996 turbo a couple of months ago, I got a lot of sense, enthusiasm (they new excactly what the X50 upgrade was, and gave me the most competitive quote too) from Gary Moleson at Keith Michaels Insurance brokers 0208 6436006. Give 'em a go.

If it's not a Ruf VIN, then it is a modified Porsche and should be insured as such.
My Ruf modified GT2 is insured as a modified Porsche (with Liverpool Victoria) and I am paying £1700.
I tried the Porsche Club scheme but they would not take it as it had too many modifications (they only insure up to 15% extra power).
The Ruf GT2 you want, is it an existing car (as I was not aware of any other than mine in the UK so far, although a yellow one is being converted soon that I know about) or you going to commision Ruf to convert a stock GT2?

GuyR - its an existing car. As far as i know its had the full ruf treatment (although not as far as the nardo engine). Dont want to give away the source in public for obvious reasons, although i'm sure you will find out sooner or later.

Ok - here we go! There is a Silver GT2 out there that has a Ruf badges on it and the owner claims has a Ruf engine in it. It turned up at a Drivers Run day at Bruntingthorpe, where I was and also Adam with his Ruf VIN Yellowbird. Also with us was a chap who actually works at Ruf as a mechanic. Adam also worked at Ruf for nearly a year until recently. One look at the car proved to us all it was not a Ruf conversion as it clearly did not have a Ruf exhaust. Then the owner preceded to tell us it had been converted in the last 6 months and we listened with a straight face. We walked off and left him talking to others. Both guys who worked at Ruf in Germany said the car had 100% never been there and the conversion was definitely not Ruf.
Ask to see the Ruf invoice from Pfaffenhausen and if necessary Adam check with Ruf directly (either I or Adam can easily contact them, as we know them very well). There are no RUF agents in the UK, all conversions are done in Germany at the main factory.
Of course if could easily be a different genuine car, but it doesn't hurt to be sure before buying.

1) Ruf's with iffy / non existent provenance: there are far too many of them, and you do have to be very careful!
2) Insurance? As suggested previously, Peart are well worth a go. When I had a genuine Ruf 911SCR some years ago they were the only insurers who knew straight off what it was and why it was worth approximately double the value of a 1978 LHD 911SC.
Interestingly, their willingness to accept the valuation came in use to the current owner when a contretemps with a Land Rover and trailer on a narrow lane ended up in shattered front spoiler and damaged rear wheel arch and wheel. His insurers, although having taken it on as a Ruf SCR decided - when faced with a claim - that it was a LHD 1978 911SC, and was therefore going to be written off, and they were going to pay out less than half what he had paid for the car 3 months beforehand!
Fortunately a call to me and access to Peart's documentation resolved the issue in his favour and the car was deemed repairable.....

Yes Guy is absolutely spot on, there was a very tatty silver GT2 with Ruf badges on at the drivers run day, the owner assured me that it was a ruf car and had been to Germany 6months previously.
I assured him it certainly was not. He then asked me how the f$ck could I know? I then proceeded to tell him where i had been for the last 7 months...

I'm not sure about the newer cars but I have my RCT insured with Norton - agreed value, limited mileage and breakdown recovery in Europe and the UK. No track day insurance though.
Out of interest what sort of BHP and torque does a RUF GT2 produce - something on a par with a Saturn V rocket I imagine ?

Depends on which package you choose. The official packages are 550 and 590. My 590 actually produced 630PS on their engine dyno.
They will also fit the 650 3.8 package from the RT12 to a 996TT or GT2. Again the 650 is a very conservative number.
If you really want more and ask nicely, with very deep pockets, they will build you one even more powerful than that............

lv just quoted me £4k for a standard gt2 !
and now i try and recall my £1700 quote from elephant and its gone up to £3300
ffs i hate insurers
just for comedy value i thought i'd try LV again, so i start with a standard gt2, again, guess what? its gone up to £4800. in 3 hours. genius. im going into insurance...
