If you want a completely mad karting experience - you can go karting on ice down Bristol way (event is held once a month I think). I guess they figured karting on a service which offers grip is just too easy!

sorry to jump in but as a bristolian i htought i could help, the phone number is 0117 929 2148 they do packages such as food etc so the price will vary according to the number of people etc, i think the uni mortor club paid about £20 per person for 16 people.
we got two endurance races with mandatory driver changes and each driver had to do the same number of laps, they may have changed the format since but you had to change driver every ten laps so the pit lane was very busy!. the circuit is a left handed oval and the grip is strange, initially there is none and you understeer like a champion, but suddenly halfway round the corner, you get it hooked up and the back comes round...............its awesome! do it, dont think about it, do it......

There's a nice little indoor track in Batley nr Leeds. Its not particularly big (300m) but its not a boring track. The karts aren't anything special but they're reasonably new and well maintained. Might be what you're looking for Alan?

There's a list of some others here www.chillisauce.co.uk/active/go_karting/yorkshire.php
