Changing this a big job? Belt that drives the water pump etc, on the driver's side of the engine - looks a bit cracked...

do you mean the cam belt (this drives the water pump)???

only one you can see without removing covers is the Alt belt??

OK, now I'm confused and worried. This is what I saw, got underneath rear of car with undertray off to sort exhaust out. you can see a belt going round quite a few pulleys, with grooves running along the length of the belt (as opposed to across the belt like 'teeth'). I thought this was the drive belt for the auxilliaries and not the cambelt as this would be behind a cover?
If this is the cambelt then I need to get it changed - the car's only done 26K, shouldn't be ready for this yet should it?
Noticed on one of the receipts from Westovers that it mentioned 'drive belt cracked', didn't take much not of this as it didn't say 'timing belt cracked' - surely that would have prompted a cambelt change for fear of ing the engine??? Help!

Ribbed - good word. What does the drive belt drive then, alternator, aircon stuff like that?
I imagine this is far easier to change than the cambelt, what do you do just loosen the alternator and slip a new ribbed one on (sounds familiar)

you can't see the cambelt. It's behind a cover. And it does have 'teeth' across the belt. The cambelt also drives the waterpump.

The belt you can see is the one for the alternator (and AC if you have that). If it's beginning to crack just replace it

yup. That's basically it. Loosen the alternator and replace belt then tension it again.Take care not to get it to tight.
