Ive singled out a Bose Amp as suspect in the rear,are these "throw away" or can they be fixed?

Can often be fixed with a new set of capacitors. Ecklers used to do them exchange IIRC.

Also have a look in the zr1.net faq - _Find "QUESTION: I'm getting noise over my radio?" if you haven't already. There is some good info on the capacitors and complete replacement amps.

Yep i saw that site Chris,thats where i got the idea to rebuild my own,ive been out looking for capacitors but have been getting the "Martian with 2 heads" looks when i ask,still ile keep looking.

Ive had a few mention Maplins,ive just been referred to a tv,video,audio repair guy not far from my so ile pay him a visit tomorrow and see what he can do first.

There's a Maplins in Reading on the Oxford Road just the other side of the IDR from the Ramada.
