1st Problem

Well - I knew it was only a matter of time!!

Went to get into the cerb today but couldn't. The alarm was working but the doors just wouldn't. I called Ben at Dream Machines who told me the way to get in - 1st problem (garage is 5 minute walk away from the house so had to go back and get necessary tools for the job) Once I had the boot opened I tried the alarm, it bleeped a couple of times and then the doors worked. I explained to Ben that I had pressed the green led button yesterday while driving as it was flashing (is that normal?) and he reckons that I've imibolised the outside door buttons??

Anyway - with the problem solved I jumped in to drive to the garage were we were looking for the ''shopping trolley'' (got a Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 - 2002 reg) the green button was still flashing but I thought I'd better leave well alone. Low and behold got to the garage and locked myself out. After having to borrow the tools needed to get in from the garage I manage to get home - having pressed the button to see if it would make a difference. I did notice that the windows didn't work while the button was flashing but did before I got out. When I went back to the car a few hours later it opened first time - anyone got any ideas

Your car sounds confused!

Did you resynchronise the alarm? You sometimes need to do this is the battery goes really flat.

Disconnect the battery and leave it for 30 seconds, make sure you have the fob in your pocket. Reconnect it and the doors will lock and the windows will go up. Now hold the key fob down for 10 seconds and the alarm sets itself but does a little dance with the indicators.

This should clear things up. You could also try resetting the door and window ECU. Its on top of the fuel tank on the right. Un plug the power lead to it and reconnect after 30 seconds, although this should have already been done by disconnecting the battery.

The green button does immobilise the outside buttons. If you set the alarm you will see it flashing. Also, if you push the button whilst you are inside then people outside won't be able to open the door with the outside. You should still be able to open using the inside buttons (don't know if that applies when the alarm is set though). Also, when you disarm the alarm it should turn off the button and go back to normal.

I would go with the confused car notion or maybe the button has stuck down if it hasn't been used much. Check to see it has a button feel to it (technical statement ). I think I only used my button twice in the time I had the car.

I once pressed the "lock" button, and afterwards found the windows didn't work properly (for reasons which now seem more logical than at the time)

Fixed with a reset of the door/window control box... (and haven't pressed it since)

(Reminds me of the button on the Heart of Gold)

I remember when I first got a Cerb reading up on that button and thinking I'm never gonna touch that.

This is exactly why.

I must admit that I only tried the flashy button once and it seemed to work ok.... wonder if it is sticking down?.
