Worst Car, Best Car
Discussion
Right then; we've all had a laugh at some of your scary moments (there are some very good ones that've been posted!) on to the next topic.
Give us your Worst Car experience, Best Car experience.
You can write about anything nasty or good (that horrible first car and your best journey for instance) or or or...I'll let you decide.
It's a Thursday, it's going to be a great weekend (there's no reason why it shouldn't be right?) and what better way to start your working day than 20- minutes on PH forum?!

Having to use 1st gear to get a renault 4 up Shap on the M1 - (heavily loaded with 3 mates and camping gear) crawled up with "interesting" smoke coming from the bonnet !
Best - Track day at bruntingthorpe in the elise - closely followed by activities in the automatic car wash with an old girldfriend

Worst Moment:
Crashing a Mk1 Astra into the back of an off-duty policeman's car, what made it worse still, was the car in front of me spun completely out of the way (causing no damage), I missed that one and hit the car in front of that! and I'd sold the Astra and was taking it over to the new purchaser
Best Moment:
Driving any TVR through the Cramer Curves at Donington without lifting and powering out of the Old Hairpin cleanly

Worst:
Driving my mini 1275 a little too enthusiastically on the backroads. Lost it over a nasty crest, sharp turn combination. Much sliding, opposite lock and crunching of metal. Woke up on my back in hospital. The nice firemen had to write-off my lovely car.
Best:
First track day at Oulton park. Driving an audi TT then a single seater. Never felt so happy, the car was an extension of my body (easy lads
) and just absolutely stuck to the track.

Any drive in my 1.3 Astra automatic. That car was a total shed, and I'm very sorry if any of you inherited it after me!! Though it should be down the scrapper by now, with any luck. Horrible, evil car.
Best:
Griff. Need I say more?
Or, if we're talking individual trips....
Worst:
The time I killed my mk 2 Cavalier's suspension and all four wheels on an icy road just after moving to this area.
Best:
The first drive in the Griff with the roof off on a sunny day! Besotted just isn't the word...

Worst - engine of my AXGT cutting out when half way past an artic
Best - First time I went over some diesel in my first MR2 and held a powerslide until I ran out of revs in second gear
Edited to remove the Fruedean mispelling of "best".

(one of the) worst moments was driving home on mway in my old Audi coupe 12 yrs ago, and there was a jam in which I came to a stop in the fast lane. My engine died and wouldn't restart, and all the traffic moved away, leaving me stranded in the fast lane trying to start the bugger! It started after about 2 minutes, but at the time it seemed forever.
Best moment is still to come when I get my wedge past its MOT and on the road for next spring

Worst: Destroying the engine of my Dad's old Audi 4000 (a long time ago...), ringing him up and asking him to rescue me from a service station on a dark, snowy night in the middle of nowhere
It was *not* repaired by the insurance company. Was I driving too fast? Maybe, maybe not
Dad obviously never caned it the way I did that night...DOH!!!
Best: Driving Ruby home from London after finalizing the purchase. T'was a warm May evening, roof off...major grin factor!! And the grin is still there

Worst : Driving south on the M6 in a VW Camper with an elevating roof. Reached the highest point of the Thelwall Viaduct when the elevating roof decided to (try and kill me) elevate. Absolutely cacked it as I didn't realise what the score was. The extra unwanted drag pulled me towards the edge, luckily as I reached the hard shoulder I was going slow enough to slam on the anchors ! BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD experience.
Best : Blasting round Snetterton in a Ferrari 355, Dodge Viper, Lotus Esprit S4 and 911 Turbo. TOP DAY.

Worst Car: Ancient Renault 12 TS Estate.
Best Car: My current Porsche Boxster S.
Worst Car Moment: In said 12 TS Estate attempting to overtake the lorry....and finding the Horse Box in front of it on the A5 in North Wales. The oncoming car did a fantastic job of braking down to the point where I could pull back in..with 1 foot to spare (literally).
That's why I bought a TVR and a Porsche...so that would NEVER happen again (also reason for much Driver training too....).
Best Car Moment: Driving up the same A5 in our TVR Chimaera for the first time. Taking the roof off in the mountains (even though it was winter and cold) because we were so f****** happy to be in it. Just great.
Very Close Car Moments: First laps of Silverstone in my first Porsche. Also...just great.

Competing Worst Moment:
Driving through Kidderminter in said 12 TS and realising that the bloke that just crashed into it was a copper...in his cop car. D'oh!
Amazingly I got away with a few choice words down the station. He'd crashed into my rear.
Poor Bugger. And he took it like a man too as his mates ripped the piss right out of him....

Worst car experience; owning and driving and the embarrassment of admitting to having a Volvo 340. Absolutely everything about it. Horrible, uugghh.
Best, well I still remember the sheer childlike delight of waking up all through the night and looking out of the window at my very first car (Mini). A petrol head then and nothing much has changed. Since then, every time I can get the back end of a rear wheel drive car hanging out and controlling it on the throttle.

Worst : Not having checked the roof rack on my old AX for a while, I set off to drive 60 miles quickly.
The back bar came off and went under a 5-series beemer. I had to follow him to the BM garage with my tail between my legs, and spend £300 or something ridiculous on his new fog light...
Best : Driving a volvo 740 turbo at 30mph on a deserted, hill-lined country road in the middle of the night. Cruise control on, sitting on the roof, steering with my feet dangling through the sunroof, with my then g/f sitting alongside.
Why do so many fine driving memories involve lardy swedish tanks?

So many good ones I'll have to take a bit longer to think about that one.
Both of my worst ones involved the death of my faithful old Minis
On my way back form a Uni interview and Beavis' (Russet Brown 1000, black roof and bonnet stripes, my first ever car) engine started sounding rattlier and rattlier, I decided trying to race the a V8 landrover 90 up a hill was a bad idea at the point when the oil pressure guage sunk below 25psi
half way from Taunton to Cambridge. He Soldiered on to Oxford but in the end it was all too much. I pulled over into a side road, and we both went foetal.
I had to wait for four hours for my Dad to pick me up at 2:00am. Worst still, I had to leave the poor littl' sod there for a week before I could get hold of a trailer to bring him home.
I tell of the end of Fred's days on the road (to date, that is) when I've decided on a good one to go with it as this has been quite depressing!
