Employment Law Question
Discussion
I am currently employed as the general manager for a small firm.
My role encompasses the day to day running of the company. Meeting clients, producing estimates, managing staff, production scheduling etc.
I have been in this role for nearly 4 years now but been with the company closer to eight.
My boss (managing director) has decided to employ one of his friends as a production director and he will in effect be having my job.
I am now being effectively forced into a sales role that I dont particularly want.
Where do I stand legally?

MD changes his mind and loyalties like most change their pants.
He wouldnt think twice about getting rid of me if it suited his ends.
My contract is very weak (only one side of A4). No strict roles detailed on it other than the job title General Manager.
This guy has been a production director for a larger company (in the same industry) before so I guess you could say he is adding something but nothing I could not be trained to do.

Obviously I don't know much about your company or your job, but if you're doing all of the above then I would have thought it would be too much for one person to do effectively. If I were in your shoes I wouldn't be talking about my contract of employment - it's not worth a light. If he wants to get rid of you he'll find a way of doing it, regadless of any contract. As such, I'd be inclined to have a meaningful discussion with the main man about your future within his business.

Thanks Screbbe.
The workload is not to much for me (or any other one person) to handle. We are quite a small concern.
I am well aware that if you want to get rid of someone there are ways and means (I have helped him to do this on a few occasions) and therefore am also aware that he won't have a problem doing this to me if neccesary.
I don't however think he wants to do that. I'm just not sure I want the sales role - I like the job I have.
