OPC's Difference of opinion.

Had a pre-purchase done on my 993 about 5 weeks/500 miles ago at an Official Porsche Centre. They found stuff which could do with doing at some point, but no show stoppers.
Car has today gone to a different OPC for an annual service and all of a sudden needs £3500 of work doing.

Here's what OPC's do. Look at the car and find ever single thing that would be necessary to bring it back to brand new condition. They pick on the slightest thing which isn't 100% right, but won't cause a problem if you don't do it. 8+ year old cars are bound to have the odd war wound. OPC want to do the full Sharon Osbourne on it. Tell 'em to bugger off.

You don't need to buy new wishbones, just get new polyurethane front bushes (£100) and get an independant to fit them (£200). When I had mine done at Autofarm it didn't need an alignment check. Disc replacement can be done for considerably less too, try Zimmerman discs which any decent garage can fit for a lot less than you were quoted! Personally I'd never have any work done (other than servicing on a recent car) by an OPC due to their silly labour charges!
Stick with genuine brake discs, they aren`t that much dearer (probably £20-25 each).
There are probably £340 of bits inc vat:
4 caliper plate kits @ £13, pads circa £80-85, 2 discs circa 70-75 each, brake fluid £10 plus brake cleaner, vat etc. It`s probably 1 to 1.5 hours a side to do the caliper plate overhaul and 1 - 2 hours to do the brakes, say 4 hours at £60 plus vat. Total cost around £600 - £650 inc vat less any discount you can get on the parts.

Andy, the 933 callipers are essentially the same ones as were on your 944 Turbo, so you should feel right at home. Technically its very easy to remove, cleanup and replace the calliper plates but the tricky bit is the tiny screw holding the plate to the calliper. Often it needs a lot of heat to persuade it to come undone
