968cab boot woe

the thing that strikes me about porsches (in my limited experience of 944 & 968) is that they are mechanically amazingly built and reliable, and the things that go wrong with them tend to be tiny little niggly things that never disable the car but cause vague ongoing irritation (944 - windows sticking, boot mechanism seizing etc).
So something somewhere has come loose in the boot mechanism of my 968cab which means that although I can hear a whirring sound when I turn the key (or press the internal release button in the footwell) it doesnt disengage the boot lock which remains firmly stuck.
Ive managed to release the rear seat uprights from inside the cabin and gain access to the boot, thus retrieving the tools of my trade, but the boot remains firmly closed.
the boot is so long and shallow I cant see how anyone can gain access to the release from inside the car - only a toddler could crawl in there, and of course the outside is smooth impenetrable metal.
At present Crispin at Oaktree is scratching his beard in anticipation of the challenge, and the car is booked in for new year. in the meantime has anyone got any ideas how to release the boot lid, either from inside or out?

The lock is activated by a cable that is connected to a small electric motor that spins when you turn the key. Obviously you can hear the motor spinning, so I would imagine your cable has either snapped (mine did this) or its come loose at either the motor or lock end 
With a coupe its simple to crawl back there, fold down the carpeting and pull open the lock. With your Cab, and the small gap through the rear seats I can see why Crispin is quaking in his boots. You need to find a mechanically competent child, equip them with a bright torch and tell them to pull that cable.
