Players Run - Cannonball Run from LA to Miami

PistonHeads hosted advertising for the Players Run last month. Now it's the last chance for Europeans, to participate in this amazing driving event:
There will be a cool road rally coming up in February: It's called the Players Run. This Cannonballrun-style charity event is held between 15th February 2003 - 22nd February 2003. You find our website on www.playersrun.net
Players Run will start at a secret location on the 15th of February 2003. There you will receive your first clues which will lead you to the first driving event. From there you will continue to your first overnight stop. More than 2500 miles on the road, racetracks and other hairrising events and many more clues to solve are now awaiting you. At the grand finale you will then hopefully be rewarded with an award.
Entry fee for one car / 2 persons is US $ 7500.- and includes charity, hotels, meals, all events, all tracks, photo production, gear, service and more. Players Run is an 'by invitation only' event.
For the Europeans: Shipping the cars from Europe to Los Angeles and back from Miami to Europe is going to be organized. We'll contact the European Players in December to organize everything, because shipping starts in the beginning of January.

So let me get this straight..
"By invitation only" to members only.. however one can become a member by filling in an application form.
Further quotes from the website..
"Rock stars and models", "Dodge the paparazzi"...
The website is passable, however my spidey sense is tingling...
No details as to the route, will sort out cars closer to the time, PS please send me $7500.

Like you i thought the same , we had some thing else on this the other week ,,,,,,,,,,
look out for the K reg fiesta mixing it up east coast stylee! 
i think its fairly legit to be honest, seems like an alternative to the Gumball Rally thing on telly a while back ! they cant really publish a route as cops would be waiting with glee rubbing their hands and if you can afford the entry fee, hell you don't really worry about that do you!

The contacts refused to give out details and there were some issues over the charity and the local police asked didn't know anything about the road closures.
IMHO I would urge caution and do a lot of research before handing over your money.
