Yeah you can get at the switch from the top, have to take the gaiter off.
However you might find the reason for the malfunction is that the remote extension has become a bit floppy, becuase the bushes have started to disintegrate.
Those pics were for a Landy, dunno if they are too useful really.

mine didnt used to work....
had the gearbox replaced along with various ancillaries, sparky mate cleaned up rear light panel (had all green stuff on it), replaced various switches - all of that to fix other problems but somewhere along the line the reversing lights started working again :lol:
