So much choice, so little time.....
Go for a good make of lens! My usual tip.
A Sony with a Zeiss lens will be a good mix of best electronics and best optics.
Otherwise, Nikon, Pentax (but don't waste money on the "waterproof" one if you don't need it), or a Canon. These manufacturers tend to know what their doing, so you get quality build, good performance, and good service if something's wrong.....

I'm looking at getting the Fuji S5600 Prices vary greatly, Jessops have it for £300, Dixons for £250, but its available online for just over £200.
