Just in the process of updating my phone to a Blackberry, so I can sync with Outlook...is there any better alternatives out there or am I choosing the right option?
How good is PH through it as well

I'd rather use two bean cans & a bit of string rather than a Blackberry.

I use a P900 instead.

Does everything I need, and works as a phone, unlike a Blackberry (I had 7 over 5 months - all ended up buzzing during calls to the extent you couldn't hear the caller on the other end of the phone!)

Hope that helps

I've had a single Blackberry for over a year and have had no problems at all with either email or phone. I also have a Samsung D600 quadband and the Blackberry always seems to pick up a stronger signal in poor reception areas. I use it extensively in UK, mainland Europe and US.

Having said that there is some concern that the $1 billion patent infringement case brought against RIM the makers of Blackberry devices may result in service interruption unless an agreement can be achieved with NTP the litigant. There's a similar action in Europe. It's most likely that these cases will either be thrown out or settled without the service interruption. RIM has said it has a software work-around if the cases go against it. Meanwhile Palm has seen a big sales rise as new buyers are shying away from buying RIM devices while there's uncertainty. I am tempted by the Treo 700W which looks like the best compromise between easy to use email device and a compact phone that doesn't require a brief case to carry it around.

I'm using an XDAIIi from o2 with blackberry enabled. It's wifi enabled so I can sit in the garden and surf PH, etc. It is also running Tomtom 5 with all the european maps. Plus I've never had a problem with the phone itself.

Just looked on the o2 website and found out that it's no longer available - bugger.....

Do you want to buy mine then....

I've got an unused 7100t (T-mobile one) that is the last replacement I had after I gave up with them.

I have a 7100T which I think is great, although I have had a few synchronisation problems with it (although I suspect this is because our server isn't running the latest software)

The only problem with it is that it takes me a long time to type anything because it has a QWERTY keyboard and I'm used to my mobile phone keyboard

forgive any ignorance, but isnt Blackberry just a different operating system? so things like buzzing phones and poor reception should be due to poor network service from the provider or dodgy handsets??

I use a Orange spv c550, its a microsoft powered smartphone fully compatable with outlook, send / receive emails, surf internet P.heads etc. It's as small as a standard mobile but if you want a querty keyboard these can be bought seperatly.
check out

Blackberry is not only an operating system (a derivation of Symbian IIRC) and a brand name for communication devices made by RIM (Research In Motion),

I'll go with the fact that I may have been unlucky with handets, but after 7 exchange handets that all developed the same fault, I feel that there may be some quality control / design issues with the Blackberry (I have tried several different models BTW)

My problems stemmed from my thinking that a 7100t would handle both voice calls & emails! It handles voice calls with a large portion of interference from the circuitry (its the same on all Blackberrys Ive tried BTW) which manifests itself as a buzzing down the earpiece. It's always there faintly on a good one, but in my experience with the volume of usage I have (4 hrs plus per day) it gets to the stage of being louder than the caller - to the extreme it can even be heard when the phone is on standby!!

The email handling is OK (I have only experience regarding the T-mobile service), but soon fills up, and when the handset is asked to deal with a decent amount of emails per day soon cries enough and then starts locking up. This is OK when you notice, but soon is a pain when the handset locks up whilst in standby, thus cannot receive calls!!

I now have a 3yo Sony Ericsson P900, purchased from a friend - handles email well, voice clarity is MILES better (that'll be the Bang & Olufsen audio that Ericsson have always used!) battery life is comparible. Only downside is no QWERTY keyboard.

Hope that helps - I still have a 7100t available, by the way

I wouldn't go for a Blackberry myself. The new Windows Mobile 5.0 devices are outstanding and you can get them with Pocket Outlook installed too. The best one around at the moment seem to be the i-mate JASJAR but if you wait a few months you'll be able to get some of the next-gen devices that include GPS.

I agree, i'd stick to a Windows Mobile device, but then i've not tried blackberry so cant really compare.
The gps phones are already available, but i'd still wait for a few more to come on the market.
