How noisy should the motor that lowers the rear spoiler be.

I've been driving my recently acquired C2 for a few weeks now and I still haven't got used to the whirring noise as the spoiler goes down when I come to a halt. It's not REALLY lOUD, but because I'm not used to a rear engined car, and the whirring of the spoiler comes from the back, it gives me a sudden - "oh f**k what have I done to the engine" pang of anxiety, which is obviously quickly aleviated by the "of course, it's only the rear spoiler" afterthought.

But as I never hear it going up, I wondered if it should be silent coming back down?

My rear spoiler is really noisy, souds like it's made of old Meccano. I've got the bits to fix it. Does anyone know how difficult this is?

Yeah. This is a common problem. The bearing in the little drive gear runs dry of grease.

Check out this DIY procedure: Here
I bought a bearing from a company I found online, but haven't had the time to install it yet...

Mine has been noisy for as long as I've had the car; I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine does this too. First time I heard it I thought I'd broken something.

Never hear it go up, but always hear it go down when I come to stop.

I'd say don't worry about it.

The evil one is correct. It's most likely the bearing. About £3 to replace plus some labour / effort.

I'm guessing that its drowned out on the way up as you'll be travelling at speed.

I have the same problem, mine sounds like it is grinding on the way down, ok on the way up. When I had the annual service at OPC they quoted 850 to replace the motor, so I declined their knind offer. Will look at replacing that bearing as it sounds like it could be the problem on mine.

Here's the company i got my bearing from (no affiliation etc) and this is the actual one you want: Link

This one is sealed so that the grease doesn't leak out - which apparently is the problem with the original one...
