Gone a bit quiet on this front. Not much in the way of news on these. Where's the gold T440R nowadays, when's the first customer car due for delivery, is the gearbox sorted and have TVR built the 440bhp engine yet, plus any info on road/magazine tests?

Answers on a postcard please.

Not heard much regarding customer cars. I've been told that customer cars were imminent for the last year. Wish they'd hurry up - I can't wait to see one on the road!

I paid my full deposit about three months ago, and speaking to the factory team I have the following info.
My car is 'near the front of the queue - there are a couple of people who paid deposits two years ago ! - I am told 'early next year' for delivery.
Things which were going to be options are standard - full hide, aircon (no cost option - adds weight ),six speed sequential box, Options include sexy 19" wheels, six pot grabbers all round, rear layout (little seats or bigger tank or just space)racing harnesses, they going to put no front pockets in doors - I want speaker space. I heard that first year production sold (24 cars?). T440R is 4.2 litre, main focus or production, T400 is 4.0 for homologation.

Spoke to Hexham just over a week ago and although had no fixed dates, they said that TVR will have to get some out on the road fairly shortly for the cars to qualify for racing. They also implied that early 2003 was the most likely date for first customer cars.

Just as a matter of interest, was the T440R at the Motorshow a final finished production version, i.e 440bhp engine and sequential box ,etc. I have assumed it wasn't since I've not seen it in any magazine/TV reviews?

The T440 at the motorshow was almost production - the brown one, that is. It has changes to the rear window, fuel filler, interior, wheels and probably a few more bits compared to the early red one. The car had the 5 speed 'regular' box in it though, the sequential box was on display free standing, and it felt luvvvverly. I believe there are further tweeks to be made to the exhaust as well.

Andy,

Have you specced up your car yet, i.e colour scheme etc?

If not, do you have any idea what you might go for? I believe some people are thinking of going for the bare carbon fibre but I'm finding it hard to visualise what that will look like.

Hi Pinkney - (I used to live near Pinkney's green in Maidenhead - whyso your handle ?)

yes it is specced - in the rainbow reflexy whitish jobby that the t350 was in at the motorshow - the one next to the brown T440R. I thought about doing the just carbon look, and published my intention here - so I might be the source of the rumour - practically wouldnt really work - where the edges need hand finished and in places where the carbon weave has to be tortured around the contours, it looks p1ss poor, there was an example in the private bit at the back of the motorshow stand and I went right off the idea. Certainly would have the benefit of no worries on stone chips though!!
Spec I have gone for is everything full on - big shiny wheels, 6 pots calipers, sport pack (instrumentation) and a cuddly toy.

Alright Andy!

Unfortunately Pinkney's my surname , apparently it's is of French origin (I've heard of Agnes de Pinkney somewhere!) which has put me off the name completely .

The spec you've gone for sounds the DB's. I'm booked mine for arrival in spring '04 - just about the time the finance deal ends on the Cerb. It also gives me a bit of time to explore different colour schemes and save up a bit! Will probably go for the full biz (19" alloys) as well.

I'm surprised TVR are still offering the rear seat option - I thought this had been dropped in favour of just the larger fuel tank. Also the sports pack option - is this just a lap timer incorporated into the instrumentation or something a bit more comprehensive?

Keep us up-to-date with any developments.

Cheers

I would like to get one in 2005. I think I would go for the T400R colour, Rosso Pearlescent?

With those 19" wheels! Oooh yes!

I think if could spec 2 rear seats then I would. 4 up in a 200mph+ car is too much to think about!
