Does anyone know what the little metal button on the tranmission tunnel by my left shin on a 996 C4 does? It's not in the manual and i don't want to press it unless it's the ejector seat or self destruct button!

I was told that originally it was going to be a James Bond 007 type button that dumped oil on the road to deter the bad guys in the car behind. Then they discovered that the 996 was more than capable of spewing oil everywhere without a button, so they used the button for something else.

or is it the button that attracts car bores muttering about it 'not being a proper porsche cos its got water in it blah blah blah' its a little known fact that all 993 drivers also refuse to use screenwash too: if it cant be made from air they dont want it...

Or could it be the button you press if you have a 993 owner on board. It then stops the aircon working properly - so they feel more 'at home'.

Hey Nervy - is this the possible explanation for your loose rear end? You're catching the button with your knee, soiling your rear rubber and completely losing control of your arse end?

As a tradionalist air-cooled type I've found the solution to the "kein wasser in meinem auto" screenwash conundrum to be collection of condensation. This way I can justify the use of this terrible substance water, knowing that it was a gift from the air. You tt
