Can anyone provide the details of the weight of these cars? I'm in a discussion at work about weight difference between Mk1 Capri with a Rover V8 fitted as opposed to your average V6 S or V8 S, as the Capri apparently beats them regularly in various competition?!
Just wanted to find out the weight difference, surely the S's are alot lighter?

An S2 weighs 920 kg

-edited to add that I read this in the TVR manual supplied with the car, so is likely a bit confused

V8S weighs 1020 KGs, almost exactly 50/50. But it may not just be down to power-to-wight ratios. Getting a good suspension setup makes a huge difference to track performance, and the driver makes even more difference.

Peter, My V5 gives the V8S as 940 kGs, I know your figure is probably accurate, based on you having the RS16V on the bathroom scales perhaps .
I understood the rover V8 to be actually lighter than the Colonge V6, which should in theory make the V8S a lighter car (if you ignore the fat git driving mine ), or is it down to the beefier chassis?

My S3c weighed 1030kg with 1/4 tank of fuel and roll bar, when weighed on my local weighbridge last year.. apparently accuracy is +/- 10kgs. Factory weight figures that I have seen are ~940kg kerb weight but isn't that measured without fluids?

I think that Harry is right. I have heard that the V6 engine may be slightly heavier as it is cast iron and the V8 is aluminium.

Could be talking out of my arse though
