Can someone please tell me if genuine 964 RS door panels and rear quarter trims are trimmed in leather or lightweight vinyl leatherette?

Thanks

The door panels are usually plain black vinyl, and the rear quarter inner trims are in black carpet material with vinyl sewn on to go under the quarterlight.

Here:

from the 964 Buyers Guide right here on PistonHeads.

Apparently the pink interior is even lighter, eh Dom.

Do any of the RS owners have a black one and get it serviced at AFN Guildford?

I think that car is for sale at Cridfords, its a RHD car for £29K but stinks of wet dog.

It was down at AFN for an inspection a few weeks back?

Aah didn't smell of dog when I went in it, although that was a year ago.

Twas very fast and very comfy and I wanted it.

I changed the ABS Sensor on it I seem to recall.

I want an RS now.

Hi Mark,

Yeah, I may be losing my job on Wednesday, plus I may have the nod on an excellent value s/h but unused Ultima kit. Selling the Red Baron will liberate cash for the basic Ultima kit then give me a few grand to play with.

Somehow, being unemployed and driving a 911RS seems a bit extravagant

Dom,
Thinking back to my first ever Porsche purchase, I got made redundant in '88 on a monday and then blew £19k on the Saturday on a pristine red 911SC. Had no job over the Xmas that year, but I was happy, got a new contract the following January and all was fine again. Proof indeed that gainful unemployment and red Porsches definitely go together. In fact, just sold the SC after 13 years of ownership and it lost me nothing, so you could in fact say that it has been an investment, unlike the E30 M3 & Audi Quattro alternatives that I had been considering at the same time that are now worth £8k & £3k respectively. Go on keep the RS, you know it makes sense.

Cheers for your kind words Colin. DeR is also saying the same stuff. I will have to wait and see what happens, but suffice to say I think the 964RS and 993RS are probably the best production sports cars (exc factory built Caterhams) that I have ever come across and nothing short of a Ferrari F40 would tempt me away from owning them.

The Ultima, as a kit car, has a huge appeal though. It would be v difficult to lose the weight/up the power in a 911 to get to an Ultima's realms of performance, and having chased bluesatin I can confirm they grip in the dry when the Red Baron is drifting... but then again, there is a challenge to a 911RS, and a wonderful balance on the limit (in the dry ) that is quite seductive and makes me want to keep it.

I need to be rich enough to have both...

Dom, sorry to hear that.....I was in the same position 7 years ago but kept the Carrera Cab I had at the time on the basis that it wasn't costing me anything not to use it and equally wasn't depreciating. Same goes for your RS too....as for the Ultima...you know it doesn't make sense....but I still want a ride....assuming you put a decent engine in it that is....

Keep it Dom, you won't regret it! Anyway, don't Ultimas trip over twigs and hit other cars??

Funnily enough, Circuit Driver dropped on my lap this morning and there is a test of a 6.3 litre Ultima around Donnington.

Fast car...blah, blah....nice noises...blah, blah...Gp C fantasy...blah, blah...simplicity....hard to fault....£40,000 to build. WHAT?? For a kit car??

Do yourself a favour Dom and leave the unused Ultima kit where it is, sounds like the fastest way to blow a family fortune known to man. For £40,000 sorry Ted, but give me a 993RS CS anyday and Sunday.
