Well, I'm finally getting ready to purchase a TVR ( ), and the burning question now is:

a: Tuscan??
or
b: Cerbera??

I've got a budget of about £30k and I'm interested to know peoples thoughts??

I would buy a Cerbera. But I would say that

For me, I prefer a Cerbera because I like its looks (IMO obviously). I like the V8 inside it, and the driving experience.

I am sure Tuscans are fast, and I am sure that they handle as well/better than a Cerbera, but the Cerbera was my preferred choice.

I am sure there will be other people who prefer a Tuscan!!

Nice position to be in anyway!

Good post, i'm going thru the same process myself at the mo.

i think the big factor for me is the amount of problems with the SP6 engine - i think i'd just be waiting for it to go bang. The cerby's extra 2 seats are a good thing too. £30k should just about stretch to a 4.5LW which looks like a fine device indeed.

Just trying to convince myself the running costs are worth it, but hell, you can't take it with you!
nice dilemma tho!

Get a Tuscan - the SP6 is nothing to be afraid of compared to another TVR made engine. The roof comes off too - and the back seats in a Cerbera are only useful for kids. And who wants grubby sticky little fingers all over the inside of their car?

in my opinion. for 30k on a tuscan would mean that it would have to be one of the earlier ones, and the earlier ones had problems that have been sorted on the later ones (i think). And because of the tuscans the cerberas are cheaper, and for 30k you could get a fairly late model that souldnt have as many problems.

This is only my opinion, and im sure someone will either back me up or say the compleate opposite.

the cerbera looks better IMHO

Yeah, I really like the look of the Tuscan, plus the removable roof really appeals, but the Cerbera seems more reliable (from what I've read) and I just read some bits about Tuscan being unstable at high speeds which concerns me (I know next years visit to LeMans would result in a test or two). My thinking so far is head=cerbera heart=tuscan.

Oh, and the issue of 30k only getting an early tuscan, I guess I could stretch it a fraction to get what I wanted if necessary so thats not an issue really.

i saw a cerb for 14 k a cheap tuscan for 23k
simple solution, get em both, 37k, only 7,000 more and you will have two cars.
drive them both for a year and after that sell them both and buy either a newer Tuscan or cerbera.
Flawless plan, lol

I recently sold my Tuscan S for £38K (Nov 2001) so I would imagine you could get a good car for £30K. I chose to go for the Tuscan over the Cerbera due to the fact it was a newer design. It is a great car but a very difficult decision to make between the two.

Good luck.

I prefer the cerb - despite the smallness of the rear seats, you can still squeeze 1 adult in behind the passenger seat, as long as its not far - they might get cramp if you take then for a 500 mile spin

Awesome power delivery, top speed and glorious sound.

I also love the tuscan, but the indicators stuck in the rear window seem like an after thought.

PW - Love the design, but there's something missing
Designer - No, can't see it
PW - The fcuking indicators man!
Designer - Bo11ocks!

I recently had the same dilemma. Fantastic dilemma isn't it?

The top mechanic where I bought the new car from reckoned that they saw far bigger bills on Cerberas than Tuscans, and that the Tuscan was by far the better car....
I must admit, I wasn't entirely convinced, but went for the Tuscan in the end 'cos it is convertible, and looks and sounds great. But then so does the Cerbera.....Dunno....I think the fact it's convertible swayed it. But Cerberas are fantastic too. Wish I could afford both.

I wouldn't worry too much about reliability, they'll both cost a lot to run! Which do you like the look of? I bought a Tuscan because I love the way it looks and I wanted a convertible.

My engine hasn't needed a rebuild (so far) but if it happens it happens - it will keep the mileage down at least!

Spot on.

I've owned both as new cars and the worst decision I ever made was selling the Cerbera for the Tuscan. The Tuscan was the car that made me leave TVR ownership.

Even Though i am a great Fan of both cars i think if it was down to purely the looks, as both have oustanding performance i would have to go for the Tuscan.IMHO of course

Well, this weekend the guys at Mole Valley let me have a try in their Tamora Demo car, and I must admit they've got a Tuscan 4.0 there for about £35k that really floats my boat.

In the interest of comparison (and making sure I was after the right car), I took an Exige for a test drive this morning and thought that was awesome too, just a little lacking in puff for the road, I reckon it's an awesome track day car though!!

Based on the chat I had with Mole Valley, they reckon that in my circumstances the Tuscan's a better bet than the Cerbera, could just be they wanted to sell me the Tuscan, but I got the impression they were genuine guys.

Just for the flavour balance, I'm going to try a BMW M Coupe (don't hate me for it, I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing), but gut feel so far will be Tuscan and then save money like mad to buy an Exige for track days

We'll see next week, but I'll let you know.

Try to get a test drive of both a Cerb and Tuscan.

BTW, we went out to a nice pub on Saturday night, wife drove the Cerb and I had a few pints. Bumped into a couple of close friends and went back to their place to continue our drinking session.

I am pleased to say that the women occupied the front seats and we gentlemen squeezed into the rears. While it was a bit tight for us two 6 foot 14 stone blokes, we managed to get back to thiers with out the need to ring for a taxi

Can you get four adults in a tuscan?
