How the feck do I download updates onto my PSP?

I have been trying to download update v2.60 onto my PSP via the USB cable. I have got it onto my computer and then sent to my PSP via the USB port but nothing really seems to happen - I'm still on v2.0.

Somebody stop me throwing it down the stairs please.

I know it is a stupid question but: did it copy to your memory stick OK? If so, once you have shut down the USB connection, it should be just a case of selecting upgrade in the right system menu. Mine is at home at the moment so I can't tell you where to look!
