Ok this is a car to tow my westfield and get me to college when I'm better, I have a choice of 3 cars but can't make up my mind about which one to put 1st on the viewing list.

They are as follows:

1996 VW Passat 2.0 CL Estate
1996/N dragon green, air con, pas, e/windows, 1 owner, fsh, 78k miles

1996 PEUGEOT 406 2.0 LX 4dr Saloon
Met Silver. 76000 miles, Air conditioning, Electric Sunroof and Windows, Twin airbags, alarm / immobiliser, remote locking, radio cassette with remote, Full Service History, 2 Owners, recent timing belt change, PAS, MOT 07/03, Excellent Condition.

and finally

1996 VAUXHALL ASTRA 1.6 CDX 16V
ESTATE, 1996, N reg . 80000 miles, air con, cd player, alloys, e/windows, roof bars, abs, airbag, full service history, MoT, lovely.

Now personally that's the order of viewing I would like, the only reason why the astra is there is because it's cheaper than the other two.

Bearing in mind this will be for when I'm 17, I don't car about street cred or speed, I want something which will tow my westfield on a trailer well, and be comfy.

The Passat will probably stand up to towing better. The Peugeot would probably be more comfy & possibly less reliable (from a friends experience).
Dunno about the Astra - haven't been in one for about 11 years & I think they've got worse since then

Get yourself a SII/III Diesel, it's cheap and fun to run; preferably as tax exempt. Oh, and it's as built for the job as the Westfield

Craig, was thinking exactly the same thing.

Bodo, had to sell the Landy for the pure reason of practicality.

It did about 25 mpg, wasn't the most comfy of cars on long journeys, was tiring to drive, and as I will be doing lots of miles for racing it had to go

BUT, I will be getting another one, when I have a bit more money, I've been bitten by the bug as they say, I'm DOOMED!!

Remembers me of my father when I was 17 and made the decision to buy a SIII as a daily transport Actually he told me, that I'll sell the Landrover after a max of six months I plan to keep the blue Diesel for the rest of my life, as it's a very useful completion to every rolling stock
It's a Landrover thing he will never understand.

PS. I chose the Landy back in 1993 to have a car to transport my Kart to the tracks, and of course, because I hadn't had the money to afford an Aston Martin DB6.
However, I sold the Kart then to keep the Landy

I would have kept the landy if it wasn't for the high miles I'll be doing, I was thinking of getting a disco but that'll be mad on insurance, although I can enquire

Basically some of my races are Scotland, Isle of Man, mostly north of Brum so from down here in surrey it's a long haul.

There WILL be another Landy added to the fleet in a couple of years, just don't know which one.

I'd go for the VW. It will hopefully hold together a bit better than the Pug and its an estate so you can lob all your crap in the back of it when you are using the Westie.

They're built like tanks, bits are cheap & the 2Ltr has plenty of torque.

Sorry to sound so alarmist but read the following thread: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=22227&f=42&h=0 because I think that none of the cars you suggest will be able to tow the Westfield legally.
