Just spent about 2 hours trawling through web sites looking for good tariff offers.
I think i've picked a phone...I like the sony ericsson K750i.

I require approx. 200 anytime X-net mins and 200 texts.

So far vodafone seems to be the best with 200 mins and 250 texts for £25, half price for 3 months on 18 month contract. That also has "stop the clock" (talk for 1 hour, pay for 3 mins, eve and weekend).

If I do go for that is it worth bartering to get a free bluetooth headset thrown in or will they just laugh in my face?! (never done contract stuff before!)

I though carphone warehouse etc would be cheaper but I've found exactly the same deal for £30 a month!!

Run out of websites that I can think of, but I swear people can get better deals than that.

18 months is a long time in mobile phone land...

www.mobileshop.com have equivalent/better offers on that phone over 12 months...

Edited to add: How about this: www.mobileshop.com/mobile-phones/o2/contract-mobile-phones/sony-ericsson-k750i.php/pnewo2k7500004

- £17.50 month for 12 months
- 500 mins/250 texts for 3 months, 250/100 thereafter.
- Free insurance for 3 months

I dont think I could physically cope with only 100 texts! I'm used to 300-400 at the moment to cutting to 200 is big enough! Helped by the minutes though!

But the saving in line rental is almost 100 texts a month worth, assuming they're 10p each.

If its vodafone that you want to go with, you should be able to get more than 3 months h/p line rental as well as a bluetooth h/s also three months free insure, you can also have more texts than 200 if you want!

Not specifically after one network, have been with virgin before who were pap for coverage though, 02 is ok at the mo.

Is that just through bartering or by other deals>

Its just through knowing what you want and how cheap you want it.
If Vodafone can do it cheaper than others, then they will.

As an ex-phones 4u manager, I would advocate having a deal in the shop.

I recently (Sept) upraded to a K750i - my tariff is the 350mins, and 100 text / GPRS data bundle. (around £40 p/m I think)

They originally wanted £90 as a upgrade charge. I concluded the deal with a free handset, car charger lead & £50 cash to walk out of the store with!!

Always pays to have a haggle in the store.

o2.co.uk online offer 500 free sms per month or loads of minutes extra in return for replacing your paperbill with an email

150 x-network mins and 750 sms a month is £25, or you can have 150 extra mins for £30

p.s. no connection etc etc, just happy with the service...
