Knocking window
Discussion
I am getting a knocking noise from my o/s window. The noise seems to be coming from the rear of the glass within the door. It happens if fully up or slightly lowered going over bumps, and I can recreate the noise if I push the window outwards, so it must be knocking on something inside the door.
Not having taken apart a door myself, does anyone who has have any ideas what this might be and hence a solution for me? Even better, some pics of the door and window mechanism.
If not, how easy is it to take off the door trim – an hour’s work? (I have the bible)
All ideas gratefully received, as this is one of those annoying problems that I want to sort ASAP because if I take anyone for a ride in the car I want them to remember the V8, not my rattley old window!!
Cheers,
Chris

On my Griffith the Rubber insert that runs down the metal guide(towards the back of the door) had fallen out somehow, only made a horrible rattle when shutting the door.
Found the insert in the door at the bottom and put it back using a metal coat hanger to slide it back down with the glass still in,also a touch of Vaseline helped(oohh er).

1) Ring Joolz.......
Did he talk you through it, or did you send it in for maintenance? ££££££ And did you have to take door panels off?

He did it for me, took about 40 minutes. I stayed to watch, and it was a total pain to do - blood and everything, so I'm glad he did it and not me. He put the roof on afterwards and re-set the window and seals as well.
As for £££££, you obviously don't know Joolz that well, he's scrupulously fair and nowhere near dealer prices (I think this applies to most if not all of the independents). I haven't had a big bill off him yet. I'm even letting him do my chassis hammerite; it's not worth doing it myself when he's so reasonable.
And did you have to take door panels off?
Yes, and even then it looked a lot like keyhole surgery. Reckon he could have been a half-decent vet if you know what I mean.
Sounds fair to me. I know of Joolz and his work. I have been able to "spend the day observing" when I've had the Chimaera serviced - but you always live and learn (never had the doors services! )
All I know is to be patient, record every nut, bolt, cable and have a digital camera handy and a mat that will catch all the loose bits . . . . oh and hands the size of a squirrel!
