Up until recently I was set on selling my 996TT & getting a 360 - probably around March/April time when the weather turns a little warmer.

All this was fine but recently been reading about the F430 & how its so much better than the 360. Every review I read it seems to point out the 360's "failings" - the F430 handles much betters, stops & goes much better, is better on & near the limit etc etc, to the point where I am being put off a 360! I mean you expect a new model to be better than the one it replaces, and I know a new model doesn't automatically make the outgoing model a "bad" car, but from being dead set I am beginning to wonder.
I have driven a 360 on a 20min test drive & loved it, a little down on performance from the TT & not as sure footed in the damp but lovely all the same.

I can't justify spending £130k+ on an F430, so I am now thinking of holding onto the 996TT.

Any thoughts ?

You've got to remember that they're comparing the 360 to it's successor, and so it's inevitable that it'll be a better car. What you need to do is compare the 360 to your Porker. Assuming you then fit a Tubi I personally think it's a no brainer...

Do it. Performance isn't everything. You have to go Ferrari once in your life.

Good points, thanks for the offer GI - must admit I always promised myself a Ferrari before I was 35 (which I am in June 06) plus a good 360 can be bought for almost half what F430's seem to be going for.

well of course incomming new models will always be better than older ones in theory.

However, there are some exceptions and the 360/430 comparison is on of them.

Just as the 348 had a reputation which was- lets be kind here- less than good then the 355 came along which was a truly great car.

The 360 has serious shortcommings wait till the 430 drops

Would you care to enlighten the forum as to these " serious shortcomings" ?

I too am keen to hear about these serious 360 problems - I was under the impression that they were pretty spot on (maybe wrong - I don't own one yet, maybe next time). More reliable and cheaper to maintain than a 355 I thought.

Personally IMO, if you want a modern Ferrari for half-sensible money I think a 360 would be the way to go. Spend the extra 60 grand (or whatever more the 430 costs) on something else.

Hear hear...!

With regards to the 360's shortcomings; the general feedback is that they're a bit twitchy on the limit. I've had mine for 18 months now, and don't mind admitting that on the road, my nerve goes way before reaching the car's limits...

You could wait forever. Until the 430 drops, until the Gallardo MY06 floods the market, until the 430 replacement comes... sooner or later, you'll do it, the danger is when the right time comes, you'll have grown up and not want one...

There's never a good/sensible time to buy a Ferrari.

Put it another way, buy a 360, if you don't like it sell it, if you do like it keep it.

At least you can be honest with yourself and say you've done it.

Totally agree mate.
The 430 is far superior to the 360. That is more a tribute to the guys at Ferrari than saying that they got it wrong with the 360.
If you are looking at buying a 360, then you are not a prospective 430 buyer. It is all relative.
I have sold many 360s and can not think of one buyer who has said that they were disappointed.
You can get into 360 ownership for as little as £55k (probably LHD though).
So long as you use the car with respect and have it properly serviced, you will love it!
Your Porsche is a great car, but when you buy a Ferrari, you will find yourself entering a new lifestyle. You better get used to the attention too.
Enjoy!

Considering you can get a good RHD 360 from £60-65K.... its bloody good value for money. A 430 is of course better but twice the price. And 355s are amazing value at the moment as well - you can pick up a sweet one for £45K.

If you want out and out power, I reckon stay with your TT and get it chipped a little further and enjoy it more that way.

As with all technological products, the moment the company brings out a new model, it will always be better than the previous one. But is the "baby" Ferrari worth £130K? No - because it is mass produced - every man and his dog, and 360stimo will have one, and when that happens its no longer special. Your 996TT will run rings round any 360 and do so reliably and without costing the earth in service and maintenance. What you do miss out on is the extra "pose" factor of the ferrari but then again the 360 will never go down as one of Ferraris greatest designs (too conservative - not dramatic enough). The only car that warrants £130K is a Murci - extreme in both looks and power. Thas what supercars should be about not carrying golf clubs.
