Is it acceptable to have 2.5 - 3 bar oil pressure on warm idle rising to 5 bar ( constant ) at 1500 rpm and above, only noticed this a couple of days ago prior to which it was always 5 bar except when the revs dropped below 1000 rpm.

Any advice most welcome

Hey Vulcan.
Just my 2p's worth.
Had my 3200gt for a year and the oil pressure always read 5 except when the pressure sensor packed up and then it was all over the place !

I think it should always display 5.

nigelo will be along shortly on here to confirm if my info is correct .
(He is superb on these cars)

As Maser3200gt has said, many 3200s read 5 bar all the time whether hot, cold, at idle or otherwise which is fine. However, for those that do not, the correct values with hot engine are:

@Idle: >2.5 bar
@6,000 RPM: between 4.5 and 5 bar

Thank you very much for the figures, I was just concerned that it used to be 5 at all times then one day it started to read at halfway between 2.5 and 5 when hot at <1000 rpm, at 1200 rpm it goes straight back to 5 and stays there until I return to idle, I took it into my local Maserati dealer and they charged me £418 to change the pressure sensor but it's still exactly the same which is really dissapointing as they have been really good up until now (I will be asking for a refund), anyway I have asked two specialist garages who were both very helpfull and made the same comments that this reading was perfectly acceptable.

Manual, 24,000 miles, just seems strange that it always read 5 bar then suddenly started to read between 3 and 4 bar at idle when hot, anything over 1200 rpm and it is hard over at 5, no other symptoms whatsoever so maybe I am just being oversensitive and should just shut up.

My 3200 seems to behave very normally with regard to its oil pressure. Idle is around 2.5 and then it hits the 5 once we start moving.
Except the day the needle just started wandering all over the guage....... Visions of enormous garage bills flashed before my eyes as I nursed it home. next morning, everything back to usual and has been ever since.

I love the car and have had 6 months of fun with it so far - but in a deep dark corner, at the back of my mind, I keep thinking its going to do something stupid.

This is how I felt with my 3200 - Problem with my car was that after a while it did do something stupid ! A Naff Dealer added to the experience made the problem worse though

2.5 at idle is fine with me !, regarding something drastic going wrong it can happen to anything at anytime, my Saab 93 conv. blew it's engine at just over 3 years old and cost nearly £4k to fix which considering it was such crap car anyway really was a bummer.
