I like the way they have Politically Corrected this film by suggesting that his wife is dying or something and that is why he is speeding instead of merely stating that he did it for no other reason than he was all pupil, no iris...

In the original, wasn't he doing it because the car was stolen, or being delivered?

Being delivered.......
I enjoyed the film, but there was no way it was going to be better than the original 1971 version.......
1970 Dodge Charger.......

Well, in the remake he seems to be toodling along with a dreamy look on his face as if he's just had a good hit of Thai weed and has "Wish You Were Here" on the stereo... he seems unfeasibly relaxed about what's happening to his wife; if it wasn't for the ringing-the-hospital scenes it'd look like some kind of made-up excuse. He doesn't have anything like the compulsion or intensity of the original. In fact all the characters are a bit soggy. The excitement and the atmosphere have gone.
