Just heard on News 24, ticket prices are set to rocket again! Are they for real? I also heard that a trip from London to Manchester by rail is £202! It cost be less for a return flight to and from Turin!
The policies in this country don't make any sense, we're told that cars are evil on the one hand, but travelling on public transport is obviously for people richer than the ones using cars, due to the high fares! Sometimes, I really hate this country!

They aren't set to rocket again - as of today they have rocketed by up tp 9%.

Personally I don't ever use the train unless travelling in to London. Offpeak if I'm paying (£11) or onpeak if the company is paying (£29) - last year's prices.

Great, force/persuade people onto the railways - then, because they can't cope with increased demand throw the prices up to get them off again.

ing brilliant.

Cheers,
Rob.

At £202 return it's got to be worth getting together and hiring a Limo to drive you there or a local light aircraft owner to fly you, and wait until you have finished.

I often to to London for a meeting for an hour or so and then come back. Now £136 return for 3 hours total on the train or £198 first class.

its already cheaper, not to mention easier, for me to drive the 100 miles to Uni and back than it is on the train. I dont see how they can expect people to get on public transport with prices like that

This has been going on for years.

Also, don't forget all the taxpayer's money poured down the railway black hole...

I have an travelcard (1st class) Hedge End to London (all zones, buses and tube) which costs around £5K. Per day that works out at £20 (5 days for 48 weeks)I could not drive 140 miles and park all day for anywhere near that.

Er, only 9%? My mates travelcard went up by 12% - a 7% increase plus the loss of a 5% discount because the service had improved

Click Here for my recent experience of trying to buy a train ticket.

I'll not bother trying again.

Train prices are stupid, I am at uni in Swansea and live in Essex. A return journey on the train booked in advance would cost me just over £60! The journey costs at the most £40 in petrol. I know the mileage affects the cars value and tyre wear etc but the real decider for me is, 6hrs on a train on 3 1/2hrs in the car. I know which one I always take......
Public transport sucks!

Sod it im now a proper commuter again. Leaving london at 5:14 on a half empty train didnt feel like commuting but tonight 5:58, queues on the platform before the train pulls in, bundles when the doors open and standing room only as the train left Cannon Street means it now feels like commuting again ie crap

So instead of getting home at 6pm I now get home at 7pm which is nice ....NOT
