I need a more powerful extractor fan for my newly refurbished shower room. As Wickes and B&Q are local I thought I'd check out product specs on their websites. They were no help at all.
Plumb centre site was little better, but top marks have to go to Screwfix.

You can even download the product manufacturers fitting instructions in PDF form so you know all about it before you order.

I was well impressed. Top site

That's not quite right. B&Q and Screwfix are sister companies. The parent company is Kingfisher plc which owns both of them.

Screwfix was family owned until a year or 2 ago IIRC.

Pretty sure the original owners have started up again, i think someone posted it on here quite recently.

Yes, agree with the positive comments about screwfix. Hardly ever beaten on price. For the car refurb work their stainless steel set screws and bolts are stonkingly good value.

screwfix was owned by the Goddard-watts family - they have recently set up Silverline tools. Jon Gaddard-Watts is a good bloke - and they were really good to work for.

As well as Woolworths and Comet, although I think Comet may have now been spun off.

The Goddard Watts have started up Toolstation (Toolstation.com). This gives Yeovil two tourist attractions, the Toolstation shop and the Screwfix shop.

Until Screwfix recently left the town for Staffordshire....

Actually they didnt actually leave, the distribution part did (the one with the largest number of employees!). HQ and call centre to remain in Yeovil. Screwfix saw themselves a South West employer but the local council objected to their plans for expansion. So Screwfix were forced to move their distribution centre elsewhere! And this all happened while Westlands were laying off people as it downscaled....

Nice to see that yet again, UK businesses are thwarted by our ineffectual and pathetic local government system....

The customer support / call centre staff are really pleasant to deal with. They didn't find my missing parcels mind, but their attitude meant that I didn't get upset at all.

Shame their delivery system is completely crap. I sent for some coving and skirting from them - 2 packs of coving arrived damaged, so I sent them back, and they promptly returned them to me, then sent another load as well.

The skirting was cracked, warped and generally poor quality, so that went back as well.

The delivery driver said that in the trade they're known as "Screw-up Direct"

Good for bulk buys of screws though

your loss seems to be our gain.

very impressive site and good to see a major quality employer move into the area.

agree about quality, prices and service - all first rate.

spoke to one of the buyers there (we do a bit for them) who told me the company is not profitable yet. they are focusing on getting the service, product and price spot on. profits will come later.

Has anyone used Unifix? Wolseley set them up in response to Screwfix but not sure if they're any good.

My wife is not impressed with ScrewFix. Mainly because when she ordered a birthday present for me they emailed me as the account holder that the package had been posted.

Therefore when she ordered my Christmas present she specifically asked for them not to email me, but they still did!
