Someone's "keyed" the X5 - grrrrr

Found a scratch mark all down the passenger door of the X5 this morning - some gits run their key along it.

Now - what is it with people????? What's the point in doing that????

Any ideas of the best way to get it fixed. I've heard of these people that just do the scratch without having to do the whole door - but can they match silver metallic??

Any suggestions / companies I can ring?

Is it too deep for any kind of compound? If you can feel the ridge in the scratch it usually is. Still, a good paint/body shop may be able to "wet sand" it. Sometimes your dealer has the facilities to do this...

The only thing worse than idiots that key your car are the idiots that fling shopping trolleys about in the car parks. They should all be lined up and shot! (all IMHO of course)

Nope - there is a distinct ridge. I'll see what I can do, but I think it's going to need some new paint.

Buy a Land Rover

Ok, personally I reckon if you can find a family run/small backstreet bodyshop, they should be able to do something for you alot cheaper.

My brother in law had a key mark across his bonnet, the dealer said it was a new bonnet at £400, the little place charged him £180.

Thanks - but unfortunatly I'm having to work today (one of the down sides of the job - but given that the job allows me to buy them I can't complain too much )

It's only just got dryish here in London - and as the sun's going to go down soon I'll think I'll wait until next weekend.

I've managed to find the RAC and Chipsaway - so I've emailed them and I'll see what they can do. If not it's off to the local paint shop

That is SO frustrating joust. You just want to get your hands on the waker don't you. It's so damn pointless.

Reminds me a few years back when I would lock my doors and therefore have my soft top cut open ..... so I left my doors open. And people would remove the 'V12' badge from my boot (e-type) so I learned to use an epoxy glue on the inside to make sure they couldn't steal it ......... silly me, then they used screwdrivers or penknives to prise it off, thus scratching the paintwork. Answer to that one was to buy a dozen 'V12' badges and just replace them. You can't really do that with doors though !!

Anyway, sorry about your troubles.

I think if people kept pinching my Badge off the car i would De-Badge the car and put them back on when selling it.

Sorry to hear that Joust. It makes my Blood boil when u work so bloody hard to afford some of lifes luxurys and some Tw@t trys to wreck it.

If the scratch has only gone throught the lacquer you could try using some GS27 scratch remover on it. It might even be worth trying it before you incur the expense of a bodyshop. It's damn good stuff.

I'd recommend Chipsaway, they just did my Elise and I'm well impressed with the results. They can pretty much make up any standard paint in the back of the van and all they need is a power socket and water to do the job.
