Had a small bump to the front of the T350 last week, now have a cracked front clam below the nearside light and a damaged light casing / smashed lense.

Took to the local dealer and I'm waiting for a price form them.

Any alternatives in the Devon Area for repairs, as I'd be interested in a second quote?

Cheers,

Hi Mart
I recently replaced a perspex lense cover on my T350,(rough guide price to supply only was around £60 + vat. I fitted it myself and wished that i got the dealer to fit it for me, the reason is that it comes way over size, and is not curved to the right shape, and you also have to apply the black mask around the edge yourself.
You also have to be careful as to which type of spray paint you use, as i used satin black acrlic from halfrauds, And bonded it in with a polyurathane mastic called sicaflex, Which is the best one can use,
Let me add that sicaflex stains your hands for weeks, so use gloves all the time, And the only thinners i found to clean up after was believe it or not 'petrol'.And must be cleaned up strait away, as sikaflex is moisture/curing, and starts to skin over very quick.
Job finished, put car away for the night, and went indoors a very happy chappie!!!
Next morning got car out, and walked around the front to inspect my work again.
I could not believe what i saw.....For some reason the black mask had all pickled up and looked bloody awful. for those of you that think i did'nt etch the side of the perspex to be stuck, yes i did!!
So i had to start all over again...(have i put you off yet????).
So i stripped the lense out again, removed the black mask, reapplied the mask, and bonded it back in with black silicon, and its been ok ever since.
Sorry to go into so much detail, but i thought that i would share my woes with you all.
The reason i fitted a new lense was because of the dust/damp inside.
and i broke the lense trying to remove it. As my dad used to say............"If it ain't broke don't try to fix it". God rest his soul.
Dave

Still waiting for a cost from local TVR dealer for the repairs..... 3 weeks to the date since I took it in for a quote.

This is the sort of lack lustre service I was hoping not to receive when I paid £35k for a car.

Well then why not start complaining to someone who can do something about it, like the dealer? Failing that, take it to one of the respected bodyshops recommended on PH and you'll get a far better level of service....

Been complaining to the dealer almost every day for the last week. Obviously.
They have now promised me a call later on today with some figures.

Mind me asking how you did it? I've come close a few times, especially in London where I, out of 300 cars seem to be the only one who knows where he's going! Ofcourse the slightest lock of wheels in a bright yellow TVR in the middle of London will draw a little attention so do my best to avoid it!

Obviously you're in a better position to judge, but if it took me 3 weeks to get a quote out of someone, with constant hassling then I'd be slightly concerned about how long the job could potentially take to complete too.

You've more patience than me, they'd have lost my business weeks ago.

Had a call at 5pm tonight from the 'bodyshop' of my local dealer. Seems to be a separate company who do the work for the dealer.

The chap asked me for a claim number from the Insurance Company. I told him, as I had told the dealer, that I needed to know the cost before I put it through my insurer.

He than stated that he would need to see the car, despite me taking it to the dealer twice before Christmas, at their request, to take photos to enable them to forward to the 'bodyshop' to obtain a quote.

So, the bodyshop won't give me a price without seeing the car, despite the dealer seeing the car twice, if I contact my insurer to obtain a claim reference, they will log it as a claim (I've checked).

I was recommended to a repairer in Collumpton on a TVR meet last September. Checked in the local phone book and come up with tvrparts.com. Anyone know if they carry out body repairs?

Mart, who have you spoken to at the dealer? Have you spoken to Allan about this, I am sure he would want to know if you are experiencing difficulties. I do know that the bodyshop is very good (have a chat with KMPOWELL).

Try Richard Smith at TVRCarParts (Dulford Autos - one and the same I believe)

Surely it would be better to take the car to the main dealers bodyshop as your car appears to be so new, rather than an independent.

Just getting a second opinion / quote......should be interesting to see the difference?

They have also been recommended by three separate people.

Well,

Quote 1: £ 1,086.03 from independent repairer, reputation unquestioned.

Quote 2:£ 1,817.26 from dealer

hmmmmmmmm

What to do......... I must admit, I'm in a bit of a quandry about this one.

Either way that's an insuarance claim so, is cost a factor?

The bump was my fault, so no, unfortunately, it's not a claim.

My excess is £450 and I will have a hike in insurance of about £700 when re-newing due to loss of no claims.

Is the cheaper one Dulford Autos? Do they actually have their own Repair facilities or are they sending it onto someone else to do the work?

My understanding is that Peninsula's bodyshop is very good and I think on a car so new, I would be sending it to them.

Decision made, car's booked in for Friday.

Long thought process on this one, eventually made my mind up.

I've gone with the one who inspired most confidence in me, regardless of cost.

I'm off to Oz on Sunday, collecting the car when I get back in 3 weeks, so I'll let you know the result!

Cheers,

Mart

Good decision will look forward to the results - I believe that Dulford do the bodywork repairs 'in house' using a very good paint guy. The dealer uses whichever bodyshop is 'in favour'. At least this way you know that you have got TVR experienced guys looking after the car for you. Glad to see you got a quote in the end !

Unfortunately I have had a similiar experience - my 03 Tamora needed a bit of TLC i had the service and was eventually quoted for the extra work by this dealer. Not satisfied really i began talking to several people.i went to an indie as opposed to the dealer, cost was a factor however what was obvious was the lack of interest and care from the dealer compared to the guys at the indie. They also knew about the cars and weren't proposing just replacing parts but explained me through the work. At the end i was very pleased with the work and felt i had been treated very well. I hope thsi helps with your decision
