Hi Chris,
Brake fluid is
hygroscopic, ie. it readily absorbs water from the atmosphere so changing it every 12 months would be extremely diligent but in general 24 months has always been the max time limit.
If your cars stuck in a damp environment go for the shorter period.
Consequences are that your brake fliud absorbs water, your
fast, braking hard and suffer a loss of brakes because the water content in the fluid boils and turns to vapour.Brake pedal to the floor and brown trousers!
