CRP + Larini = Flames on a S2 111s?
Discussion
You will lose about 3 bhp with a CRP, but the noise will be greatly enhanced. Tony Hetherington will be able to tell - he is the only person I can think of with the Larini + CRP on a 111s. Mine still has the cat. No flames unfortunately. Though I saw some impressive 4 foot long flames from a car at the last Bedford trackday. I think it was an audi turbo conversion though.
You called
I noticed no difference in performance when I went from just Larini back box to backbox plus CRP (though surprised there is actually an apparent powerloss, but hey - the noise more than makes up for it!).
I don't know if I have any flames (people that have followed certainly haven't said anything) but what I do know is that if you're a complete hooligan and allow it to come down on the over-run, it burbles nicely (like unburnt fuel being chucked into the exhaust pop pop pop rumble rumble hehe).
Click on my name on the left and look in the 'videos' bit of my profile, I did some noise comparisons in all 3 states which may be of use!
Feel free to ask any more questions.
Oh, and I'd like to publicly admit that since getting the Larini+CRP, my driving style has changed. When driving 'normally' I now drive do the best noise is made, not the best progress hehe
(when pressing on, the noise just sounds great anyway).

My car feels so much quicker with the Larini and I know this is down to the noise, not the performance. And so what? As long as you are having FUN.

Hi guys,
Happy new year to everyone!
After some helful advice from tony I added a larini CRP to the clubsport exhaust on my S2 111S for a few days recently. It sounded fantastic, not much different when cruisng but put your foot to the floor and all hell broke loose... bl00dy loud and then some and yep, I can confirm it was backed up visually by poping the occasional flame out the tail pipes on the upchanges when really giving it abuse i.e. reving to the limiter.
I also had the emmissions checked while it was on and the only issue was it was pumping out a lot of partially burn fuel on fast idle.
By all means watch tonys videos but bear in mind that that the sound is going through a camera mike and possibly computer speakers...it sounds miles better and louder live.
For sound, highly recommended but as mentioned there are a few negatives also (possible small power loss, legality etc.)
Cheers guys,

Cheers guys,
I've got an S1 with Larini Manifolds, Larini CRP and Larini back box. I've not heard of or seen of any flames being produced. The standard computer on both the standard and 111S cars cuts all fuel on lift-off and only returns it on throttle-on or below 1900RPM... I get the odd lil pop when changing gear, altghough it's stifled as the ECU cuts fuel... I do get the nicest little burbles and booms below 2000RPM on the overrun when the ECU returns fuel to the mix. I've seen an elise here on-track running an Emerald and Jenvey DTH throttle bodies and a standard (ish) exhaust and that one CERTAINLY spat the odd flame or two!.... I think it's mainly in the ECU... for emmissions reasons, the MG/ Lotus K4 ECU cuts fuel and hence stifles any flames etc... which makes sense as it's better... but you dfon't get the cool flames

I wouldn't have thought you would get flames either but when I had a mechanic friend in the car he reckoned that it sounded like unburnt fuel was exploding in the exhaust on the upchanges. Decided to go out on a country road when it was dark, he jumped out the car and I belted it past him, he def saw flames on the upchage from 1st to 2nd (it was foggy and icy so couldnt really storm up through 2nd and 3rd).
Maybe the ECU hadn't adjusted to the change in back pressure yet? As I said, when I got the emissions checked, it was pumping out a fair amount of unburnt fuel compared to what it would normally (.62% CO IIRC) even on a constant throttle (2,750 RPM) ...
I'm not an expert so maybe this all has nothing to do with it, or maybee I actually have a mal-functioning ECU?
Anyway its off now and now this has come up im pissed off i didnt get him to make a video, i would have liked to see it myself

Thanks for the replies everyone.
And thanks for the kind offer Tony, but unfortunately I now live in Australia! (where pops & flames are useful to scare away kangaroos and upset flies...just kiddin). The vids are great btw! I am sure that my shabby speakers dont do the sound justice.
Since I live downunder I want to be sure that I pick the right exhaust because I dont fancy wanting weeks to receive it then having to return it back across the ocean.
One way I have found to get flames on a previous car was to touch the throttle slightly in a high gear after flooring it in a lower gear. This introduces a little bit of fuel and when combined with a small throttle opening, can produce a flame from a hot exhaust if the resultant mixture is rich enough.

Yep, I do that sometimes when very high reving in a gear then let the gaspedal come back at once and then put in on a very smal bit(a few mm) you feel that on your throttle and then you can hear pops.(no flames because of the cat but a racy sound)
I had a Nissan Sunny GTI-R that was tuned to 300hp and had a full Mongoost? system(from UK) exhaust that was fat and loud and when I did that on that car flames came out and pops everytime out the exhaust when letting the gaspedal loose from high revving..very nice and rallycar like

GTRene - have we reminded you recently that you are in fact completely nuts! Of course being a nut, if you do pop over and meet the BOLOCs lads, you will know that you have come to the right place...
Yeah I know, would be great fun and driving
and much to learn on a cirquit that we can't do on the normal roads...but for me(I'm not such a great distance driver also because of costs) its a great/big distance sadly otherwise I would like it
I only've being once to the UK by car last august when I visit Hinkley at the Ultima open day(very nice cars
) very nice roads you have there! only have to think over and over again that I was in the UK and drive on the other side of the road
so track days will be different too I think? And I don't have a Lotus yet...still have to sel my beemer first or maybe I could px it for the Lotus Exige Cup 240 that I'm after in mid januar...when that price is resonable and I can px my car for a reasonable price...
