Sat Nav system for use in Portugal

Hello Everyone,
My mother has recently moved to Portugal, and is finding it a little difficult to find her way around and maintain the eyes at the back of the head that is required to stay alive on the crazy streets there.
Her B'day is coming up soon and I would love to help out by buying her a portabal sat nav unit. My obvious is concern though is that the Portugal map won't be as detailed if i buy here than if I do in Portugal, which is going to be a little difficult for me.

Was wondering if anyone knew what the best one to buy with the best maps. I'm a little lost with all the various options on offer and wouild dearly love to get this for her.

dont know anything about it, but it you can get the extra map for a Tom Tom
guess that would be more detailed than a general Europe map

As TomTom comes with all langauges AFAIK, it might be worth buying a local system with the Portugal maps installed and just switching the default language over - will certainly work out cheaper.
