as soon as he does his business, pick him up and put him by the door, after a few times of the dog taking a dump on the doormat, it will stand by the door whimpering, just attach lead and run outside to the nearest annoying neigbour's garden

Of course this depends on the dog, I first used this method on a retriever, it worked great, however my doberman protests in a nasty way.

Dont be daft Dogs have no sense of shame or jealosy etc(sic). They grovel if you look displeased or they expect displeasure/punishment. He'd piss for britain and on tv if you gave him a biscuit each time he did it on the carpet.

I assume he was house trained before and this is a new developement. If so it could be either because he drinks to much and can't contain himself (maybe needs more time outside to pee). It could be a medical problem, is he drinking more, monitor his fluid intake. Or he could be being overly submissive ie see's you as overly dominant at the moment. Is he absent from you for longer periods then before? Is everything in the relationship the same as before?

If he does it when he meets/greets you then he's being submissive.

Our lab had a problem a while back and it turned out to be a bladder infection. When she was excited she would pee by mistake when the infection cleared she was okay again.

Is he still intact? Maybe he is spraying his territory? Good luck.

What a coincidence, we've got a nappied dog at the mo!

Ours is on water tablets due to a heart condition; after coming home to puddles of piss every few days we started putting pampers on her with a hole cut out for her tail. But the bits that are in nappies get everywhere.

So....can you buy proper dog nappies??

ps. she looks a right tw@t, it's well embarrassing when you open the door to go for a walk and you've forgotten to take it off, cue you shouting after a dog to come so it can have it's nappy off.

Gaz,

So, nothing has changed in habits and your position as pack leader? He's being treated the same. Is he peeing on the floor or cocking his leg on the furniture. If it's on the furniture then he's trying to establish rank and territory. if on the floor, he may have a medical issue. If when greeting you, then it's submissive.

How/when does he do it? Is it just a couple of times or more regular?

Get him one of these

or one of these

Then when you're feeling excited you can go and pee or dump in it to get your own back!

My bitch has always done something similar, but only when REALLY excited or very scared.

We ended up taking her to the vets twice, to be told that there was nothing wrong with her and that occasionally some dogs will occasionally lose some bladder control (and I'm talking a scattering of droplets, not puddles lol).

It's not really a problem with ours, could happen perhaps half a dozen times a year tops, most of those around november when the big fireworks kick off.

Couple of days. You can tell when he gets embarresed because his eyebrows raise in the middle, droop at the sides, and he bows his head while looking up at you.

Ahh bless him, that's so sweet.

I do agree that animals do have a sense of guilt. My mates bitch used to pee in the bath if she was caught short and she would always take them to it and then sit with her tail between her legs in shame.

My Springer does this all the time

It's very annoying, the vet just told me to make sure he gets plenty of time outside.

Much more of this and he can live outside permanently....in someone elses's garden....at least a few streets away

I would say either he is in such a hurry to get back in he hasn't quite finished or it's a submissive thing with him coming into doggie manhood if he still has his plums and is maybe a bit confused

Err, yes you can as I bought some just before christmas - our 1 year bitch was due to come into season and we were staying in a hired cottage so didn't want mucky carpets. I got them from the local farm shop(G+M Growers)who sell tons of pet stuff as well - there is a sort of Gortexy pant thing and pads to put inside, they look just like normal human pant liners so I suppose you could use them as well if cheaper. The outer bit comes in about 5 different sizes. SWMBO thought it all a bit close to "dog abuse" watching me try and get a very lively young dog into pants and maybe she is right

Our yellow lab is just the same. If he's REALLY excited and hasn't been out for a few hours, a few drops might come out. Only happened half a dozen times in the 5 years we've had him.

In the last couple of days, whenever the dog gets excited, he, er, has an 'accident'.

Has anyone got any ideas how to deal with this- he's 11 months old if it helps.

Just make sure he only gets excited outside, my dog is house trained and 5 years old but if i`ve been away for a few days he will pee when he meets me so i arrange the first meet in the back garden.
If he gets that excited when he greets you take it as a compliment.
