Hi Folks,

Does anyone have any experiance fitting a wider tire to a Yamaha XJ600N? I have a 1999 divvy and the rear tire is looking a tad on the narrow side compaired to my mates bikes, even my mates VFR400 has a fatter rear tire

Would I need to put a different swing arm on or something?

Thanks in advance

You'll slow the steering down if you put a wider tyre on.

A wider rear will ruin the handling of your bike. It won't match the profile of the front, it won't give you extra grip or allow you to lean any further, it will slow down your steering and make the front end feel as if it's falling into corners. Stick with the standard sizes.

Hmm I didnt relise it could have such a bad effect on the handeling, well I guess I will stick with the skinny wheel for now untill I get a new bike with a fatter wheel.

I just feel quite envious of my mates who have big fat tires as it looks so much better, Tire Envy thats a new one for me

Cheers guys

I'm many ways a narrow tyre is better, the ultimate grip of a 180/190 rear tyre is huge but as been said you sometimes need to wrestle with the things a divvy doesn't need anything wider really and i bet you can scrape the pegs really easy so it wouldn't benefit at all
