I'm trying to track down my husband's original Elise R270HEW. He's been pining away for it ever since we sold it nearly 3 years ago, and I'm entertaining a remote dream of buying it back as a surprise for his 40th birthday (if it's still in one piece).

Anyone out there own it?

www.trackphoto.co.uk has several photos of it.

Contacting them to find out when they were taken could provide a link to the new owner if you're willing to do a little detective work...

Googled the number plate & came up with this.

Also might be worth a post on www.seloc.org

Hi all, I have a feeling that's my husband driving it at Castle Combe on his one and only track outing.

I'll email them and check...

Does your husband have in his records who he sold it to (i.e. did he photocopy the log book when he sold it, or perhaps just has the guy's phone number?). If so, ring the guy you sold it to; if he still owns it, bingo, if not, then I'm sure he'll happily pass on details etc.

As others have said, try SELOC also.

Good luck, it sounds like a very nice idea and your husband is apparently very lucky

Hi, I've run an HPI check on it for you and it's still registered in the UK - no recorded damages etc. it's on its 3rd owner so should be fairly easy to track down if you still have the details of who you sold it to.
Best of luck.
Richard.

Excellent, thanks Mr Foster!

I'm pretty sure we no longer have the details of the guy (Norwegian called Runar) that we sold it to and even if we have, he's gone back to Norway. I know he'd sold it on before he went back. You've confirmed that at least it hasn't been sold on further or taken abroad or trashed....

why? It's a track day, not a race. I'd wager over 50% of Elises have been tracked

You guys did a track day at Coombe in it yourself also; just because a car's been on a track is not a bad thing. Indeed, if it's been looked after everything will be sorted and so it should really be judged on condition and condition and condition.

I would be more worried about an elise that had never been tracked. Most of the folks who do lotus on track days are really pedantic about every aspect of their cars. The brakes, tyres, engines get checked all the time. Oil changes happen regularly. Problems are identified early etc etc.

However, there are a number of S1's in the classifieds at the moment - could you not find one that will be close enough to the orginal?

The Elise is a track day car, it does it no more harm than some people do to cars on the road. I know of engines that have gone bang without going near a track. Get it checked out by a competent mechanic, Bob's your uncle.

Chances are, loonie or otherwise, the owner will have prep'd the car for use on the track - oil / coolant etc... In addition, if they are loonies then they generally drive the same whether their cars on the track or public road.

Most people with an Elise will do some track time sooner or later - don't let this put you off your search... Unless of course you have 3 kids like me and then then you don't actually have enough time to drive the car to the track

Do a search for him on the member list and then send a U2U (internal seloc email).
