Hi, I'm considering buying a 155 with a short MOT, my only concern is that the near side sill has been damaged recently. It has ben pushed in by the rear door, the floor has not been damaged and the side skirt hides most of it. Does anyone think this damage will be an MOT failure? All comments welcome....

I thought *non-structutal* bodywork was only an MOT failure if there were any sharp bits that a passerby could injure themselves on?

Thanks. I visited a local garage this morning and he said the same thing. Also he asked if the door could be opened ok and to also check to see if all the welds were intact just in case.

It does actually sound like a prescribed area. As the sill is structural, any damage within 30cm of a suspension mounting or seatbelt anchorage point will be subject to assessment in the MOT test.
A reason for rejection would be damage or corrosion which adversely affects the strength of the load bearing member.

If my answer sounds text book, that's probably because I've learned the MOT tester's manual fairly well, but I hope it helps.

If it isn't too bad, you could dress it up with filler etc, but do realise that it may make a tester rather suspicious. It may just be better to allow the damage to be seem, but touch up any bits where the paint is broken to prevent future corrosion.
