I have a poor TV signal in my area and the picture is a bit fuzzy.

Is there anyway I could get Freeview if I used one of those internal high spec (40db) amplified aerials?

If the signal is already weak with an outdoor aerial then it is always better to install a higher gain outdoor one.
Indoor aerials sometimes work if they have a good pre-amp (note that 'good' has no relation to how many dB gain they claim)
BUT indoor aerials with high gain amplifiers are very prone to interference from other sources.

Get a Category 1 aerial and amp, that should sort it.

Type your postcode into the following site and it will tell you which freeserve stations you can receive and what direction to point your aerial.

The cat1 antenna Plotty is talking about can be found on the Confederation of Aerial Industries web site.

www.cai.org.uk iirc.

Then go to the bench marked aerial and they are listed in there.

I put up a Televes DAT45 just before Christmas and the difference over a contrators antenna (like wot most of us have) is amazing.

It still will all depend if you are within a freeview transmission area though. We are just on the edge here and it does occationally break up, especailly at the moment with winter clouds.

PS, Plotty hows it going with the networking custom install idea?
