Savings of thousands on new and used TVRs

350T at Gatwick TVR
350T at Gatwick TVR
Gatwick TVR has announced its January sale to boost interest at this traditionally slow time for the motor trade.

Example deals on new cars include a new Sherwood Bentley Green Pearlescent 350T, un-registered and available for immediate delivery for £39,950, down from £46,950 (see pic), plus a Tuscan 2 in Moonraker Black, down from £44,350 to £38,500.

Used cars are down too with up to £5,000 off a Cerbie, and savings of between £1,00 and £3,000 on cars from a Tamora to a Chimaera to a Tuscan S.

...."to boost interest at this traditionally slow time for the motor trade."
Translated means, to shift some stock cars that have been around for far too long!
Serioulsly tough, ! New cars at used prices, just goes to show how bad things are right now, even for TVR sales. You'd be pretty miffed if you paid full up money for either of the two cars mentioned, I'll stick with fully depreciated old banger thanks.

Traditionally Slow Time in the Motor Trade???

Why is it we're always busy this time of year, January has always been a good time for us, and i'm in the Motor Trade.

Still, good time to buy if you are/were in the market.

If you are looking to buy I'd give the guys at Gatwick a call. Based on my personal experience they thorougly deserve your business and I can't speak highly enough about the service I have recieved there. And I'm a fussy punter too. They put countless main dealers of other makes to shame.

Could be time to shake off the S6 phobia and get yourself the drive of your life with a 3 year warranty.

(And no cynics I'm not on the payroll, but they're decent sorts down there and have looked after me very well so why not put in a good word where it's warranted?)

When did you last see a used T350 at £40k?

As posted on another residual thread, apparantly my 3.5 month old Tamora is worth somewhere between £24 - £29K

I would suggest asking for the build date of the T350T... and the saving seems not so much anymore.

Agree with your sentiment Christof - it looks a fortune pre-sale. I wonder how long it was for sale at the pre-reduced price prior to being "substantially reduced" I'm almost certain that car was built prior to August 2005.

This would appear to be a very short sighted approach from a dealer sending out all the wrong signals and I would question the ethics.

Maybe they're about to give up the dealership and no longer care?

300 miles on the clock. A demo and way over priced. They'll do well to get 35k.

I expect my cars to depreciate in the first two years, the price I pay for preferring to buy new. Having said that I got over 80% back on my first Tuscan after 26 months and 15k miles which is excellent.

I remember seeing the T350 you refer to on sale in early September when I was looking for a Tamora. I remember the interior colour combination took my eye.

I think if dealers are prepared to knock that much money off cars in one go then they're taking the pi$$ by pricing them that high in the first place. no-one is against people making a living but if cars are on the lot too long, they're overpriced - simple as that - or not very good - one or the other. Maybe with the number of dealers (factory and indie) in the south, the competition down there is finally sorting them out numbers wise.

I bought a lovely Chim from Gatwick - when they were Mole Valley - and was very happy with it. Didn't pay over the odds either from a dealer. That cherry Cerb lokos the dogs - did they still do 4.2 ones as lates as 02? I thought they were all 4.0 speed six ones or 4.5s by then - ?

Anyway, pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap (as someone once said)

Blimey, give the Gatwick guys a break!!

They're keen to deal so go snap up a bargain from some of the nicest people you could hope to buy a car from.

Indies don't sell new cars. These cars are new cars priced at list, not "overpriced" cars on "the lot". It's January FFS. We're in a retail recession. Go out on the high street and look at all the big retailers knocking 50% off. All these guys are doing is offering a slightly better deal than usual and good luck to them.

Thats what I thought when I read this thread. So they're discounting. Shirley this means prospective buyers can go blag a deal. Of course TVRs are hard to sell at this time of year - its snowing out there!

BTW - yes, that green Targa has been around for a while - doesn't make it a bad car though. They had a purple Tamora which I loved the look of for ages (might still have it), so I would visit their website on occasion for a drool and saw the green Targa too.

I know indies don't sell new cars ... I was talking about the secondhand bargains on there - no point in me looking at new cars - I can't afford 'em. A slightly better deal than usual ? - they've knocked 5k off that Cerbera which suggests that perhaps it was 5k overpriced to begin with ... or certainly 3k.

A friend of mine bought a DB7 Vantage recently. Up for £56k, he paid £46k. The £5k in the Cerbie was probably their margin, which they are letting go to move the car. Perfectly normal business practice I would have thought for a sports car dealer in January.

Or how about since the car has been on the forecourt it's aged?

Stock depreciates over time so used cars become 'worth' less over time. A consequence of the depreciation is that a depreciation entry will now hit the dealer instead of a profit. Dealers then have to take a view on 'a bird in hand' to realise the stock's value.

Everyone expects the 'red carpet' from a main dealer car and most people have the intelligence to realise that higher prices on main dealer forecourts enable them to expect a higher level of preparation of the used vehicle and and a higher level of after sales goodwill - both things for which Gatwick has an excellent reputation. What do you think that's paid for? Charity?

Typically paying "£3K too much" (the maths of an idiot anyway IMHO) for a main dealer supplied used TVR equates to a saving in grief of greater than £3K down the road. Profit isn't a dirty word - making one is why businesses exist. Without it, they don't.

That rather depends on the dealer though Phil, wouldn't you agree?

It can mean paying a premium on the car and then a premium on every visit you make to them...
